Claire was stunned to see Amelia here. "What are you…"
"Were you intending to hide this from me forever?"
"You can barely deal with your own affairs," Claire said as she took a deep breath. "I can't keep giving you trouble as your mom. What's more, I'm fully capable of dealing with this by myself. Give me my phone back. I have messages to reply to."
Amelia looked at her mother, tears welling up in her eyes. "Focus on rest and recuperation. I'll help you deal with the problems. Mom, why torture yourself like this?"
Claire's eyes welled up with tears as she sniffled and looked out the window.
"The company lost its pillar, with your uncle being ill and all. I have to step up. He also needs money for treatment, while you're going through a divorce. Money is needed everywhere. It's not cheap to raise a child, either. If I fall at this point, what are you going to do?"
She took a deep breath and covered her face with her hands, sobbing hard.
"I'm your mom. Of course I want you to have a better life instead of adding to your burden. If this project doesn't go well, we'll be a few hundreds of millions of dollars in debt. I don't want to burden you."
Amelia's mind was in a mess.
In her past life, her family business had been making losses but they refused to seek help from her. Instead, they struggled silently on their own until her uncle's health gave way.
She had no idea at all.
If she hadn't bumped into her mom at the hospital, she might still be in the dark about her uncle's cancer right now.
Amelia felt suffocated with every breath she took.
Her entire past life revolved around the Zephyrs and she spent all her time taking care of the members of that family, in turn neglecting many of her loved ones around her.
She always thought that her family was doing well.
"Mom…" Amelia took a deep breath. "We're family. I can help deal with these problems, too."
Words were useless at this point. She had to prove it with her actions.

Claire was wheeled into the operating theatre and Amelia waited outside.
The operation took slightly over an hour. Claire was wheeled out, safe and sound. The surgery went very smoothly.
Tania said, "It's all thanks to Chris that business has been thriving recently. We secured many projects during this period. We were holding a celebration banquet during noon. If I hadn't called you to invite you two to the party, I wouldn't have known about you two being hospitalized."
"Chris didn't want you worrying, too," Nicole said with a smile. "Let's head up."
Amelia's face turned pale as she tightened her grip over the bags in her hand.
This meant that Christopher was completely in the know and was even involved in ACE Technologies' poaching of all of Ascent Corporation's partners and suppliers.
How laughable.
Was there a need for him to be so merciless even if he didn't love her?
She took a deep breath and tried her best to compose herself before turning around and heading upstairs.
"Is that Ms. Sinclair?"
Upon catching sight of Amelia, Nicole approached her.
Seeing the bag in Amelia's hands, Nicole said with a smile, "Are you here to see Chris? There's no need for that. I'm taking good care of him."
