Amelia stood up to say goodbye to everyone.

Some of her colleagues were slightly tipsy, and Jasper had to drive them home.

Amelia intended to hail a cab to the hospital instead of troubling Jasper further.

The summer night was exceptionally hot and stuffy, but the sky looked dark and gloomy from afar, as if warning of impending rain.

She had called for a cab on her phone, but no drivers were willing to take her request.

Just then, a black sedan stopped right before her.

The window was wound down, and Lincoln looked at Amelia from inside. “It’s about to rain. Where are you headed? I can give you a lift.”

Amelia smiled and rejected him politely, “I’d hate to trouble you, Mr. Spencer. I’ve already called for a cab.”

He was the boss of their partner company. It didn’t seem like a good idea to impose on him.

“There’s no need to stand on ceremony with me,” Lincoln said. “Come on in.”

Amelia glanced at her watch and then up at the dark, heavy clouds in the sky. She eventually decided to hop into Lincoln’s car.

Inside was a subtle scent of sandalwood. Amelia felt slightly awkward, since they weren’t exactly familiar with each other.

“Where are you headed?” Lincoln asked.

Amelia gave him the address to the hospital instead of telling him outright that she was going to the hospital.

Afterward, the driver started the engine and headed straight to the destination.

Silence ensued in the car.

“Did you pay for the bill today?” Lincoln suddenly asked, breaking the silence in the small space.

“We should be the ones taking the bill. Please don’t mind it at all,” Amelia replied to him with a smile.

Lincoln was kind enough to offer to treat them, but that didn’t mean they had to take it. He might have offered it, but they couldn’t really let him pay for the meal.

“Sure,” Lincoln said. “I’m not much older than you. You don’t need to talk so politely to me.”

Amelia looked at him, stunned for a few seconds. She then broke into a smile.

“Sure, Mr. Spencer.”

It started raining heavily along the journey. The raindrops pitter-pattered rhythmically and noisily on the car.

Very soon, the car arrived near the hospital. The hospital entrance was just across the road.

As Amelia pulled the door open, Lincoln handed her an umbrella. “Take this. Don’t get caught in the rain and catch a cold.”

Amelia stared at the umbrella in his hand. It was a branded one that cost thousands of dollars.

She didn’t quite know whether to laugh or cry. A similar umbrella sat in Christopher’s car as well, but she hardly sat in it and had never used the umbrella.

Her hesitation made Lincoln ask, “What’s the matter?”

“How will I return it to you?”

“No need,” Lincoln said. “It’s just an umbrella.”

It was their first time meeting today, after all. How could she take home such an expensive umbrella that belonged to him?

“Let’s exchange numbers. I’ll send it to your office another day,” Amelia said.

Seeing how she seemed insistent on returning the umbrella, Lincoln didn’t reject her and handed her his name card.

After getting out of the car with the umbrella in hand, Amelia stared at the gold hot-stamped name card.

Chairman of Navitech, Lincoln Spencer.

Amelia was stunned. Chairman?

Did he just demote himself today? They should all have addressed him as Chairman Spencer! Everyone in her department had thought that he was just the CEO.

Amelia found it strange, but didn’t think too much of it. She slipped the name card into her pocket and headed to the hospital.

When she arrived at the hospital entrance, she started folding the umbrella.

Coincidentally, Luke was there. He stared at the umbrella in Amelia’s hand. He was probably on his way out of the hospital after visiting Christopher.

“How vain. You can’t afford the actual branded stuff and bought yourself a counterfeit one,” he scoffed. “Does Christopher know about it? Don’t embarrass him, please.”

Amelia cast him a cold glance. “Don’t you have anything better to do?”
