“Sure,” Christopher said without any hesitation.

There was nothing emotional about their divorce negotiation.

Everything seemed so business-like.

It felt as though they were strangers who were here to just go through the divorce proceedings. There was no affection between them whatsoever.

Amelia was not surprised by how readily Christopher agreed to her request. He never liked Evelyn to begin with.

She looked and read through the last few pages of the agreement, where she noticed two additional terms.

The first was to keep their divorce a secret from the Zephyrs and the public.

The second was to keep the fact that they were married and the duration of their marriage under wraps unless Christopher gave her explicit permission to reveal it.

If she were to breach any of the terms in the agreement, Christopher had the right to take back all assets and compensation to preserve his reputation and image.

He could also ask for compensation from her.

Amelia found the terms rather laughable.

He was clearly trying to protect Nicole with all his might, out of fear that someone might one day expose Nicole for being a homewrecker.

Come to think of it, no one would find fault with Nicole.

Everyone knew that they were childhood sweethearts.

She could have stayed by Christopher’s side as a good friend, and no one would accuse her of being a homewrecker. They had done such a good job keeping it under wraps, Amelia never found out in her past life.

Christopher was going to such great lengths just for Nicole’s sake.

A man who loved a woman so much would indeed go all out to plan for her, clearing all potential risks and eliminating all signs of trouble.

However, these terms inevitably imposed pressure on Amelia.

Amelia put the document down and looked coldly at him. “What if I don’t agree to these terms?”

Christopher smiled. He took a sip of his coffee and said leisurely, “I’ll have to fight for custody of Evelyn, then.” 1

Amelia’s heart turned cold. She could almost feel her blood freezing in her veins.

He had already expected this to happen.

She finally understood how far he would go to make sure that Nicole’s reputation remained untainted.

No wonder he was offering her such generous compensation! It was to keep her mouth shut.

Amelia clenched the agreement tight in her hands.

She had no choice.

Cyrus said that she might not be able to fight with Christopher for custody of Evelyn. This fact alone was forcing her to agree to his terms.

She could always take a gamble and go to court with him.

However, it was not a guaranteed victory for her. If she failed, her daughter’s happiness would be at stake.

As long as there was a sliver of chance of failure, she would never take a wager on her daughter’s life.

Amelia had no choice but to sign the divorce agreement.

“Well?” Luke stared at Amelia, who remained unmoving. “Why aren’t you signing?”

She had come so swiftly and eagerly, looking as though she really wanted the divorce. Yet now, she was hesitating to sign when the papers were presented to her.

“Pen, please.”

Amelia took the pen from the lawyer and signed her name on the papers.

Luke’s eyes widened in surprise.
