Chapter 178
The staff member asked if they really wanted to register their divorce.
“Yes,” Amelia said without any hesitation.
The staff member glanced at Christopher, who nodded in agreement.
The staff member handed them a document, which he asked them to sign.
Amelia took the document and read the content.
It was clearly written that there was a thirty-day cooling-off period from the date of registration of divorce. If any party decided not to go ahead with the divorce, the application for divorce could be annulled.
She lowered her head and signed the document without hesitation.
Christopher, on the other hand, signed it way slower.
When Evelyn fell into the water and he carried her out, he might have strained his old injury. Amelia could see his hand shaking when he signed the document.
She waited patiently for him to be done.
After both of them had signed the document, they handed it back to the staff member. They had officially registered their divorce.
“This is the receipt of your divorce registration application. Please keep it well.”
Amelia took the receipt and saw the words printed on it.
Heaving an inward sigh of relief, she held the receipt in her hand and felt a sense of stability she had never felt
before.
Christopher turned to glance at her before slowly retracting his gaze.
As they walked out of the clerk’s office, Christopher asked Amelia, “Where are you headed? I’ll send you there.”
He was distant, but still polite.
“Is there really a need for that, Mr. Zephyr?” Amelia looked back at him. “We’re getting a divorce. Why bother keeping up appearances?”
Christopher heard the cynicism in Amelia’s voice, but his face remained unchanged. He didn’t push the matter further.
Amelia knew that he was just being polite.
They went their separate ways.
Their relationship had always been cold and distant right from the beginning.
The staff member in the clerk’s office didn’t even bother to ask them to reconsider their divorce. It was clear as

day that there was no affection between them whatsoever.
The staff member at the clerk’s office must have seen countless couples and probably could tell which ones really wanted a divorce and which ones didn’t.
Amelia hailed a cab and left the office.
After settling down in the cab, she heaved a sigh of relief. This marriage that existed only in name was finally coming to an end.
She soon arrived back home.
Evelyn had to stay at home to recuperate from her injuries.
“Did everything go smoothly? We must have a celebration tonight!” Winona said once she saw Amelia back home.
“Yes,” Amelia said with a smile. “It all went well.”
“That’s good! You should really cut ties with that shameless scoundrel. Although I must say, you’re letting that shameless couple off too easily,” Winona said huffily.
Winona had always been harsh with her words.
That night, Claire came over to help take care of Evelyn.
Amelia was headed out for drinks with the rest of the gang. With all the emotions suppressed in her for so long, she needed an outlet to vent.
“You’ll be free in a month,” Winona said.
“Yeah, I’ll finally be free,” Amelia agreed.
Jasper picked them up in his car. However, he looked clearly upset.
Winona looked at him and asked, “What’s the matter? We should all be happy for Amelia. Why the long face?”
“Your ex-husband went for celebratory drinks with his dream lover the moment you two left the clerk’s office,” Jasper said.
He showed them the latest update on Nicole’s social media page.
(Good wine for good days ahead. We’ll drink till we drop today! Cheers to Chris for being single and free to mingle again!] (1
