Chapter 18
Near the competition venue, there was a private club.
Amelia stepped inside.
Christopher had reserved a tea room, and he was already there when she arrived. The man wore all black, his gaze lowered as he sipped tea with quiet composure.
Steam from the hot water swirled around them, carrying the delicate fragrance of the tea through the room. Amelia actually found the aroma quite pleasant.
Christopher was even more devoted to tea culture, drinking coffee only when late nights of work demanded it.
Seeing Amelia enter, he gestured lightly. “Sit.”
“What do you want to talk about?” Amelia asked as she sat, her eyes fixed on him.
She had come because she assumed Christopher’s message was about the divorce.
He noticed the strange, complicated look in her eyes. He poured a cup of tea and set it in front of her. “Why were you at the competition today?”
“That’s none of your business,” she replied coolly.
Christopher didn’t flinch at her coldness.
“Where are you and Evie living?” he asked.
Amelia frowned. “What is it that you want to say?”
He produced a small, exquisite velvet box and pushed it across the table toward her.
Amelia froze. Today was their wedding anniversary. She had it burned into her memory, whether she wanted to or not. Every year, she had looked forward to this day with longing.
In the past, she always had to remind Christopher by phone before he even remembered it was their anniversary.
In her previous life, she had prepared an entire table of dishes and even made the cake herself. He had promised he would come back.
In the end, he broke that promise.
She had waited at home all night, and he never showed.
At the time, Christopher said he was busy.
Now, it was clear. He had been busy accompanying Nicole to the ISSDC competition.
Amelia looked at the box and asked, “What’s this?”
Was this a wedding anniversary gift?
“Open it and see,” he said.

Taking a deep breath, unsure of what he was playing at, Amella picked up the small velvet box and opened it.
Inside was the ring she had thrown away at Nathan’s birthday banquet.
She had worn this wedding ring for so long that a faint mark still lingered on her ring finger. On the other hand, Christopher never wore one.
Looking at the ring was like staring at the remnants of her six-year marriage, a marriage that had left her feeling widowed while still alive.
“Come home,” Christopher said, taking a small sip of tea before setting his cup down.
His gaze was calm and steady.
“You’ve been sarcastic toward Nikki time and again. I won’t make an issue of It, and Nikki is generous enough not to hold a grudge. All the things you’ve done in the past, I won’t hold against you. When you come home, you’re still my wife. Whatever you want, you’ll have it.”
Amelia sneered, “Whatever I want? Do you even know what I want?”
In the entire six years in her previous life, what did she have?
There was a sharp edge of cold mockery in her voice, laced with something that felt dangerously close to hatred. Amelia hated Christopher’s coldness, hated the way he dismissed her so easily.
“Whatever you want, you can just say it. After all these years of marriage, have I ever denied you anything?”
“Go home, be your wife, and watch you and Nicole play house?” she snapped.
Her words dripped with sarcasm, sharp and biting.
Christopher’s brows drew together, and for the first time, there was a flicker of anger in his voice. “Amelia, stop humiliating Nikki like this. What are you sulking about? The old you wouldn’t have been so clueless.”
“I don’t want to talk to you about this,” Amelia said coldly, ready to bring up the divorce papers.
Then, Christopher’s phone buzzed.
Amelia saw the contact ID-Lil Nikki.
She turned away, her chest tightening. She was still sitting here because she wanted to talk to him about a divorce.
