Reborn Without You (Amelia and Christopher) novel Chapter 182

Chapter 182

“You have such a glib tongue. What else can I think about you?”

Mr. Hale ordered some dishes. He wasn’t particularly picky with his food.

He then turned to ask Amelia, “Some of your recent projects have been progressing well and will be launched in the middle of this month. Do you feel nervous about it?”

“Not too bad,” Amelia replied calmly. “We started those projects in February and March. It’s about time for the results in August and September.”

She felt rather confident about these projects.

They discussed the projects for a long time.

Mr. Hale brought up some difficulties the projects led by his institute were facing. “Can any of you come up a solution?”

Amelia said, “I’ll give it a try.”

Mr. Hale scoffed and glanced at her, giving her 20 minutes to think about it. Before the 20 minutes were up, Amelia came up with a plausible solution.

Mr. Hale nodded in approval. “You’ve improved a lot.”

“Yes,” Amelia said. “Given how the industry is nowadays, it’s tough to survive if you don’t have some abilities.”

Amelia seized the chance to speak her mind.

“Mr. Hale. The industry is developing rapidly, and I want to pursue further studies and continue with postgraduate studies.”

She pursed her lips.

“Do you think I still stand a chance…?”

She had been performing well in many projects recently.

Her capabilities had far exceeded those of a master’s and even a doctoral student.

However, academic qualifications were still something the domestic industry placed importance on. Academic scholarship was something very highly regarded.

Mr. Hale didn’t immediately give Amelia a response. He simply looked at her with a smile.

Amelia knew that Professor Hale wouldn’t forgive her so easily.

She took part in the previous competition to prove herself, and that was also the reason she took on so many projects.

She wanted to perform well in them to convey to Professor Hale her determination to delve deeper into this industry. She wasn’t just saying it on a whim.

She needed to pursue further studies and strengthen herself academically.

She just needed a good mentor.

“Amelia works very hard and is very capable in this area. Professor Hale, I’m sure you can see it for yourself. Let her pursue further studies and bring glory to you and to the country,” Jasper chimed in. “You always tell us that admitting one’s mistakes and correcting them is the greatest virtue.”

Mr. Hale scoffed.

He glanced at Amelia and finally said, “Don’t embarrass me again!”

Joy filled Amelia’s heart. A smile broke across her face.

“Of course! Thank you for giving me another chance, Professor Hale.”

Jasper lifted his glass. “Enough with the formalities. Here’s wishing you a bright future and smooth-sailing studies ahead!”

Amelia could finally put down the huge burden on her shoulders during the meal.

Mr. Hale headed back to the institute.

Amelia wanted to buy some stationery for Evelyn. Instead of taking Jasper’s car, she told Jasper to send Mr. Hale back instead.

She stood by the roadside to try to hail a cab.

Just then, her phone rang.

She looked and saw that it was Christopher calling. Immediately, she rejected the call.

He called her again, and she rejected it once more.

“Why did you reject my call?”

A man’s voice sounded from behind her. It sounded cold and heavy.

Amelia stood stunned for a moment before turning back. “What do you want?”

She was calm and collected, feeling none of the guilt from being caught hanging up on him.

Christopher pulled out his car key and handed it to her. “Send me back.”

“It’s not convenient for me,” Amelia said with confusion.

Christopher said, “Grandma’s coming to our marital home today. Come back with me. What would she think if she found out that you’re not living there anymore?”

Amelia frowned.

She recalled the terms in the contract she had signed and the freedom she had agreed to give up. She had to put on a front with Christopher in front of Dorothy.

Amelia clenched her fists and stared at the car key in his hand, still silent.
