Chapter 185
Amelia went to the bookstore to buy a lot of stationery for Evelyn.
Evelyn had been resting at home after falling into the water from a terrible height, which had been quite a scare for her. However, she didn’t lag in her studies.
When Amelia reached home, she saw that Evelyn seemed to be recovering well.
She rubbed Evelyn’s head. “You’ll be able to go back to school tomorrow.”
Evelyn didn’t seem very happy with Amelia’s decision.
She looked down and nodded.
Amelia realized that Evelyn had been feeling blue recently.
Perhaps it was because she told Evelyn that they would have nothing to do with Christopher from now on.
Evelyn had always desired her father’s love. Now that she was suddenly told that she would have to break off all contact with her dad, it was understandable that she was glum.
However, there could be other reasons at play.
“Darling, you can always tell me if something is bothering you or making you upset,” Amelia said with concern.
Evelyn looked at the stationery Amelia bought for her and just said, “Nothing.”
“Regarding your dad,” Amelia went on, “it’s definitely not because you’re not good enough or that he doesn’t like you. Mom and Dad got a divorce because our relationship broke down. It’s not because of you, Evelyn.”
Evelyn pursed her lips and looked at Amelia.
She said with a smile, “I know, Mom. I’m not exactly upset. I knew very long ago that Dad doesn’t like me. He only likes Nathan.”
Tears used to well up in her eyes at the thought of that, but now, she was able to say that calmly.
How much emotional torment did she have to endure to finally come to accept this truth?
Evelyn was obedient and sensible.
Amelia looked at her daughter, her heart breaking. She opened her mouth to say something, but she didn’t know where to start.
If Evelyn didn’t want to share her feelings, there was nothing Amelia could do about it.
The next day, Amelia got out of bed and sent Evelyn to her kindergarten.
In the afternoon, she received a call from Nigel.
“Ms. Sinclair, Mr. Zephyr wants you to come to the company’s office this afternoon if you have the time to settle post-divorce property transfer matters.”

Amelia agreed.
Property transfer was something troublesome, but things went exceptionally smoothly on Christopher’s end.
At least, it was way faster than the divorce petition that he never responded to.
She didn’t intend to take anything from the marriage, with the sole exception of Evelyn’s custody.
However, Christopher was willing to shell out a lot of money and threaten Amelia with custody of Evelyn just to seal her lips and protect Nicole and Nathan’s reputation.
Amelia had no choice but to agree to it. Given that, there was no reason for her to reject the asset distribution.
Amelia hung up and hailed a cab to head straight to Infotech’s office.
When she arrived, she stood right there staring at the towering building before her.
She suddenly found the situation rather laughable. She couldn’t go to his office many times while they were married, yet she had been coming so frequently now that they were getting a divorce.
She went all the way up to the CEO’s office.
Coincidentally, Nigel was walking out of the office. He flashed her a smile when he saw her.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Zephyr is having a meeting right now. Please give him a while.”
Amelia frowned slightly.
They had agreed on a time. Yet now that she was here, she had to wait for him.
Before, she had waited for a long time. The memory of it was still fresh in her mind.
Amelia smirked at Nigel’s seemingly polite words.
Christopher had never cared about her. All the more he wouldn’t halt his meeting just for her.
She looked at Nigel and said, “If I said I minded it, would you go pull Christopher out of the meeting room right now?”
She said it calmly, but her words carried veiled hostility and were clearly unfriendly.
Nigel stood stunned for a moment.
Amelia had always been mild-mannered and gentle. Yet now, she had become so cold and calculating, Nigel couldn’t quite react to her.
She felt like a completely different person.
Why did her attitude take a 180-degree change after signing the divorce papers?
She had always been subservient to Mr. Zephyr. A person couldn’t possibly change so drastically within such a short period of time.
