Luke had a cigarette between his lips as he looked slovenly at Amelia, hinting that she was pestering Christopher and refusing to let go of him.

Amelia already knew what to expect from this bunch. Thus, she wasn’t affected by Luke’s quip.

Still, she wondered who among the three of them knew about their appointment with Mr. Johnson and was here to make things difficult for her.

Nicole looked at Amelia. “Ms. Sinclair, come and have a seat.”

She sounded just like a gracious host granting Amelia a seat at the table.

“Apologies for coming late, everyone,” came a voice.

Mr. Johnson walked in, clad in a smart business suit.

The government had been supporting many technology companies lately. Both up-and-coming stars and long- established companies were on their radar.

Valoria’s technology industry was booming, and significant importance was placed on grooming industry talents. Partnerships between long-established and new companies were struck up in hopes of pushing the domestic technology industry to greater heights.

“It’s not late at all,” Luke and Nicole said at the same time.

Mr. Johnson looked at Amelia and pushed his glasses up his nose bridge. “Why are you standing? Please take a seat.”

Amelia nodded respectfully.

Mr. Johnson guided her to a seat next to Christopher.

As she settled down, the refreshing scent of Christopher’s cologne drifted into her nose, so familiar yet so strange at the same time.

Christopher didn’t so much as look at her, behaving so coldly, as though they were strangers.

It had rained earlier today in Northon, and the temperature was still rather cool.

The moment Mr. Johnson sat down, Nicole offered him a cup of hot tea.

Mr. Johnson took a sip and glanced at Christopher. “Chris, it’s been a while since we last met. When will your father be back from his business trip overseas?”

“I’m not too sure about my father’s work schedule,” Christopher said with a smile.

As a high-ranking official, his father had offended his fair share of people.

As part of an investigation team on inspection, many people were trying to gather information about his father’s whereabouts. Christopher had received many such queries over the past few days.

However, Christopher always made sure that his answers were vague yet polite.

“There’s no need for such formalities. Please feel at home and make yourself comfortable,” Mr. Johnson said.

with a smile.

He then turned to ask Amelia, “Ms. Sinclair, do you want some tea, or…”

“Warm water will do.”

Suddenly, Nicole grabbed the teapot.

“I heard from Chris that you’re a master at brewing tea during your time as an assistant at Infotech Group. Why don’t you let us have a taste of your skills?”

Her smiling gaze landed on Amelia’s face.

“Will we have the good fortune of tasting the tea you brew, Ms. Sinclair?”

Amelia wasn’t particular with her tea, but since Christopher enjoyed drinking and appreciating tea, she took the time and effort to hone her tea brewing skills.

She never expected her tea-brewing skills to end up being the butt of Christopher and Nicole’s jokes.

She looked coldly at Christopher, who simply looked down at his teacup, pretending not to hear what Nicole said.

Christopher had never cared about Amelia. All the more, he was turning a blind eye to her predicament right

now.

“Is that so?” Mr. Johnson held his teacup in his hand and glanced at Amelia. “I would like to have a taste of that.

Luke glanced at Amelia. “Since Mr. Johnson has said that, wouldn’t you do it for him?”

Status was critical in the upper society. Whoever brewed tea during a meal like this would be seen as the lowest

in status.

Mr. Johnson had asked for her tea, and Nicole and Luke were forcing her into an awkward position. Amelia couldn’t refuse, for fear of embarrassing Mr. Johnson.

She had to brew the tea for Mr. Johnson’s sake.

She quietly scooped up a spoonful of tea leaves and began brewing the tea, her moves natural and well-versed.

When she was done, she presented the first cup of tea to Mr. Johnson before handing everyone else a cup of tea

each.

As she handed Christopher his cup of tea, he realized that there was a kettle of just-boiling water near her hand.

He stretched his hand out and pushed the kettle away, the boiling water swishing inside it and splashing out onto the back of his hand.

Amelia saw what happened, and her hand froze in mid-air. She looked at Christopher in disbelief.

Was he…showing her concern?
