Chapter 206
Nicole prided herself on her cultured upbringing and tried hard to keep up appearances.
“I’ll ask Chris and get to the bottom of this.” She then held Nathan’s hand. “Let’s go.”
To that, Amelia scoffed.
At first, she had wanted to tell them amicably to move out instead of being so hostile about it. She had more important things to do and couldn’t be bothered to argue with them about this.
Since they had to usurp her house and look so entitled to it, she had to be more aggressive in her approach.
The next morning, Amelia received a call from her real estate agent, who told her that there was a buyer for her house and asked her when she had the time to sign the contract.
Amelia was rather surprised.
Had Nicole and Nathan moved out so quickly?
Amelia agreed to meet her real estate agent after work. Then, she headed to Nova Nine’s office and delved right into work.
Nicole was supposed to report to work one day ahead of schedule.
But even as they waited for her for a long time, she still hadn’t arrived. Soon, an hour passed.
Winona was furious. “Does she think she’s the boss around here? What does she take the company for?”
Jasper glanced at his wristwatch. “Let’s just go ahead with the meeting.”
According to the original schedule, they were supposed to introduce the new colleague and welcome her to the
team.
Yet, she was so tardy, as though she was trying to throw her weight around.
“I’m sorry for being late.”
Midway through the meeting, Nicole pushed the door open.
She was wearing a modern-looking androgynous suit, looking neat and professional.
Nicole looked at everyone in the room and asked, “Is there anything you need me to do?”
“Why don’t you introduce yourself to everyone first?”
She did as she was told and shared her resume with everyone in the room. Everyone clapped for her when she was done.
“Double doctorate at such a young age… Impressive,” someone muttered under his breath.
Nicole’s resume was impressive indeed.

The meeting was soon adjourned. Amelia, as a core member of the technology department, assigned Nicole the task of tidying up all the documents.
Nicole chuckled in disbelief, “Me? Tidy up documents?”
Amelia sat in her chair and looked at Nicole with a smile. “It’s simply work arrangements. You can ask Mr. Langley if you have any questions about it.”
Nicole was here for the core projects, but Amelia assigned her peripheral tasks and gave her almost no exposure to critical documents. She was here to be the backbone of Nova Nine’s technology department, not do miscellaneous chores!
Nicole was sure that Amelia was using her status and connections in the company to make trouble for her.
What a joke!
Nicole looked at Amelia and smirked, but said nothing. She turned around to complete the work she was given.
In the afternoon, Nicole was in the washroom when she received a call.
It was from Christopher, who was calling to ask if work was going smoothly.
Nicole was washing her hands. She put her phone on the counter and switched it to loudspeaker mode, then started freshening her makeup.
“Not too bad. There’s a lot of work to be done around here, and things are quite busy. I didn’t even have the time for lunch.”
Nicole was an independent woman who wouldn’t bother complaining to Christopher about something minor at work. That would only make others think that she was incompetent.
It was only a matter of time before she navigated the workplace at Nova Nine.
With time, she was confident that Jasper would realize who was more suitable to be a core member of the technology department.
Christopher fell silent for two seconds.
“Chris?”
“It’s been tough on you,” Christopher said tenderly. “I ordered takeaway from Nightingale’s Mist for you and everyone else in the team. It should arrive soon.”
Nightingale’s Mist never did takeaways, but Christopher had what it takes to make an exception for Nicole.
The one who was doted never had anything to fear.
A sweet smile hung on Nicole’s lips.
When she left the washroom, she bumped into Amelia, who was walking in.
Amelia didn’t mean to overhear her conversation, but she did as she made her way into the washroom.
As usual, Christopher was warm and gentle to Nicole.
