Reborn Without You (Amelia and Christopher) novel Chapter 214

Chapter 214

The window at the driver’s seat wound down.

Nigel’s head peeked out from the car, and he urged her with a frown, “Hurry up. We’re running late.”

Amelia halted in her footsteps.

The car wasn’t parked very far away, but she caught a cold recently and didn’t want to be exposed to the rain.

She furrowed her brows, but eventually decided to run toward the car. Raindrops landed on her face, accompanied by the chilly wind. Her body shuddered in the cold.

Amelia knew that Christopher was in the back row, so she opened the door to the front passenger seat and sat in

Raindrops clung to her hair, and she looked down to flick the raindrops off her dress.

Nigel’s eyes widened at the sight of her in the front passenger seat. He never expected her to sit there.

“Well…” Nigel subconsciously glanced at the rearview mirror.

Seated in the back row was Christopher, dressed in a black suit, looking cold and aloof. His eyes were cold and almost emotionless.

“Aren’t we running late? Drive on,” Amelia urged.

The earlier they arrived, the earlier they could leave. She didn’t want to stay too long at the event. Simply showing up for a while was sufficient.

“Sit in the back row.”

Just then, Christopher spoke up.

“I’m perfectly fine in front,” Amelia said flatly.

Christopher’s patience was at its limits. “I won’t repeat myself a third time. You know the consequences of that.

They weren’t officially divorced yet.

Amelia naturally knew the consequences of going against Christopher. If he insisted on fighting with her for custody of Evelyn, she would be helpless against it. She wouldn’t be able to retaliate.

There was no need for her to insist on something so trivial and risk something even more important.

She eventually decided to move to the back row.

Silence ensued in the car as it headed to the Randalls.

Their residence was all decked out in white. The air hung heavy amidst the dark clouds and rain.

Members of the Zephyr family arrived one after another.

Dorothy, Lucia, and Stephanie stepped out of the car with umbrellas in hand.

“Mia,” Dorothy said with a smile when she saw Amelia. “Come here and walk with me.”

She hadn’t seen Amelia for a long time and missed her terribly.

Amelia was very glad to do that. She would rather be with Dorothy than Christopher.

Nicole was standing at the entrance, welcoming the guests. She looked haggard and exhausted, like a completely different person.

Her grandfather’s passing clearly dealt her a huge blow.

Nicole greeted all her guests, making sure she was hospitable to every one of them.

“Chris…”

Nicole looked at Christopher, an inexplicable look in her eyes.

“I’m wiped,” she said, her voice hoarse with fatigue and her face slightly pale.

It was indeed tiring handling the entire funeral. 1

The physical fatigue wasn’t even the worst. The emotional turmoil of having lost a loved one was the worst.

Tears threatened to fall, but Nicole stubbornly and pridefully held back.

“Grandpa…was perfectly fine a while back. He was in great spirits. I…” Nicole choked as she hung her head low.

“You can’t bring the dead back to life,” Christopher said as gently as he could. “I’m here with you.”

Luke saw Nicole breaking down when he arrived.

He approached her and consoled her, “My condolences, Nicole. Chris, she’s all alone at the entrance. She’s sad over her grandfather’s passing. Why don’t you join her at the entrance and talk to her?”

Christopher nodded, agreeing with Luke’s suggestion.

Stephanie’s gaze shifted between them, a smile forming on her lips. “You should chat with her. You two grew up together. Nicole will probably feel better with you by her side.”

She subconsciously glanced at Amelia as she spoke.

“Unlike others who are obsessed with work, yet are still here just to upset people.”

Lucia smirked and said nothing, but her eyes said enough.

Dorothy couldn’t quite catch what they were saying in their hushed tones and asked, “What are you talking about?”

“Mrs. Zephyr, please head in and take a seat,” Tania said as she walked out, looking haggard as well.
