Reborn Without You (Amelia and Christopher) novel Chapter 228

Chapter 228

Nicole kept the smile on her face, looking calm and unflustered.

She was neither servile, nor arrogant, nor overbearing.

She had previously met Mr. Hale through Christopher’s introduction, but Mr. Hale kept refusing to take her as his student.

Nicole then asked around, and she soon found out that Mr. Hale had previously accepted a female student who gave up her studies halfway to go get married.

Mr. Hale was furious back then. Nicole assumed that with this precedent, he started being prejudiced against all female students.

She could understand why he didn’t want to accept female students now, so she didn’t want to put him on the

spot.

However, she was determined to get her hands on a local degree.

She also needed a professional from the domestic industry to guide her in her master’s and doctoral thesis, which would certainly give her company the boost it needed.

It would also lend a voice of authority to her works, making her company a force to be reckoned with both internationally and domestically.

Mr. Hale looked at her in silence.

Age had left its mark on his face, but it did nothing to quell the natural and imposing air he exuded.

Nicole pursed her lips.

“Mr. Hale… Do you have any reservations whatsoever?

“Although I just returned from abroad, I had no intention of furthering my career overseas. I brought back with me all the advanced technology and know-how I gained from overseas so I could contribute to the local industry of my home country.

“My heart has always been here.”

Mr. Hale flashed her a kind smile.

“It’s good to see you youngsters with such drive. There’s hope in the future of our country. However, I really don’t have the energy I need to guide and mentor you on your thesis. I implore you to find someone else.”

Mr. Hale glanced at Christopher and said with a chuckle, “With Mr. Zephyr backing you up, you can do anything you put your mind to. Now that he’s even opened a company for you, I’m sure it’ll do well.”

His tone sounded friendly, but he seemed to be implying something.

He seemed to be hinting that Nicole had to rely on someone to establish a company for her while she sat back and did nothing.

Nicole paused for a moment, her lips moving. She hesitated to speak. She felt like there was cotton stuffed down

her throat, suffocating her.

She wanted to refute Mr. Hale’s claims, but without any real accomplishments back home, everything at present seemed to agree with what Mr. Hale hinted at.

The more she tried to explain, the worse things might be.

“Indeed. You’re so accomplished at such a young age, it’s certainly admirable,” Jasper said as he approached them.

He turned to look at Christopher.

“Mr. Zephyr, you’re rich and powerful and are willing to spend a fortune just to win a smile from your lady. It sounds like a beautiful love story.’

The irony in his voice was unmissable.

The smile froze on Nicole’s face; she started flushing with embarrassment.

She had just returned from abroad, equipped with technical knowledge and advantages, as well as stellar academic qualifications.

Why did Jasper have to make it sound like she was relying on a man to get to where she was right now? 1

She furrowed her brows and looked at Christopher, seeking help.

Christopher remained calm and cool, and his lips curled in a smile.

“Nicole is an expert I hired from overseas. I believe Megatech will go far under her leadership,” he said to Mr. Hale.

His words made everyone put aside their prejudice.

He had specially hired Nicole from overseas. She didn’t come in from the backdoor.

Nicole smiled sweetly.

“We’re good friends, practically family. I didn’t actually want people to know this,” Nicole said as she took a deep breath, looking hesitant. “If everyone finds out that we grew up together, they’d surely think that I came in through the backdoor. I’ve never wanted people to know about the relationship we share.”

There was no change to the smile on Mr. Hale’s face, although his pensive gaze shifted toward Christopher.
