“Professor Hale just wants me to work with a peace of mind. He’s advanced in years. Am I really going to make him take care of my child? That’ll make me the most horrible student in history! I’ll just send her to more enrichment classes,” Amelia said.

“That’s not true,” Jasper said.

He walked toward the driver’s seat, opened the car door, and hopped in.

“He likes children. His son works for the military and is about the same age as us. The guy’s still single, and the professor keeps complaining that he hasn’t had the chance to be a grandfather despite being so advanced in years. You’re the only one of his students who has a child. He suggested that partially for his own selfish reasons, because he likes Evelyn. Don’t let him down and make him sad.”

Amelia sat in the front passenger seat.

“Is that really so?” She pondered for a moment. “Summer break is right around the corner. I’ll think about it.”

School was out during summer break, and work was getting busy for Amelia. She had to think about who was going to take care of Evelyn.

Originally, she wanted to bring Evelyn to work.

Her mother was up to her ears in work at Ascent Corporation. She didn’t want to add to her mother’s workload.

Aside from her mother, there seemed to be no

Jasper could tell what she was worried about.

ne else she could trust to take care of Evelyn.

“His friends all have grandchildren and keep boasting to him about it. If you send Evelyn his way, it’d only make him happy. Evelyn is a smart girl. She might just take over your mantle and be even more impressive than you are under his influence.”

Jasper could tell that Evelyn had an impressive memory. It was practically photographic! She had inherited her parents’ excellent genes.

“I just don’t want to cause trouble for him,” Amelia said, still bogged down by her concerns.

Mr. Hale knew that she faced many inconveniences with a child in tow while trying to build her career. She could strike a balance between work and family, but it was tough.

Now that he had assigned her to work on the satellite project under Institute 511, he also took the initiative to suggest taking care of Evelyn.

“I’ll talk to him about it another time,” Amelia said.

Jasper nodded.

He drove straight to the government office.

Amelia didn’t eat breakfast and felt a little faint when she stepped out of the car, probably due to low blood

sugar.

Her vision suddenly turned black, and she almost lost her balance.

Jasper held her steady, worry filling his eyes. “What’s wrong?”

Amelia pursed her pale lips and remained silent. Her hands were trembling.

Jasper guessed what was going on and held her tight. He pulled out a sweet from his pocket and handed it to Amelia.

“You’re so occupied by work that you forgot all about breakfast. Thankfully, I forgot to give Evelyn the sweet I brought her.”

He peeled the wrapper away and put the sweet to Amelia’s lips. Amelia took it and put it in her mouth.

Jasper looked worriedly at her. “Go get some rest in the car. I’ll head in and sign the contract by myself.”

Amelia caught her breath as she sucked on the sweet, which made her feel much better.

She shook her head. “I’m fine. This happens all the time.”

Seeing the color return to Amelia’s cheeks, Jasper felt relieved and slowly released her. “Seems like not only do I have to keep tabs on your projects, but I’ve got to keep tabs on your meals, too.”

Meanwhile, Christopher and everyone else saw Jasper holding Amelia and giving her a sweet.

Luke turned to say to Christopher, “Chris, your ex-wife is really good. She’s got Jasper wrapped around her little finger… I can’t believe he actually brought her to the contract signing today! What are they doing in broad daylight?”

Christopher looked at them, his gaze deep and dark.

He retracted his gaze and slammed the car door shut without a word.
