Reborn Without You (Amelia and Christopher) novel Chapter 24

Chapter 24

Christopher paused, almost imperceptibly,

It was the first time he had seen such a clear, icy expression in Amelia’s eyes.

In the past, she had always been bright and cheerful around him. Lately, she had been cold and moody, and there was no way he hadn’t noticed.

“Just a sibling squabble.” Christopher glanced at Evelyn. “She’s fine, right?”

Amelia’s voice was sharp and cold as she held Evelyn protectively in her arms. “They’ve long stopped being siblings.”

Christopher’s tone darkened slightly. “Amelia, why are you throwing a tantrum now?”

Amelia let out a cold, humorless laugh. She looked up at him, incredulous. Did he really think she was throwing a tantrum now?

“Christopher, who exactly did you come to the parent-teacher meeting for today?”

He calmly answered, “Does it matter?”

“Not really,” Amelia said, taking Evelyn’s hand. “Evie and I have nothing to do with you,

either.”

She had told the teacher that he was too busy to come, and yet here he was, attending Nathan’s meeting with Nicole.

Amelia felt the sting of irony deep in her chest.

She looked at Evelyn. “Mommy told you before. What do you do when someone bullies you?”

It was the first time Amelia had ever spoken to Evelyn with such seriousness.

Evelyn bit her lip, her small hands clutching the hem of her clothes tightly. Over the years in the Zephyr family, she had learned to swallow her pride, knowing she could never win against her brother. Everyone always

favored him.

It had shaped her into the quiet, cautious little girl she had become. She had always been careful, timid, and afraid of being disliked by everyone.

Even as a little girl, she had thought she was less capable than her brother, and that was why people didn’t like her as much.

Faced with her mother’s stern gaze, she bit down hard and walked up to Nathan in front of everyone. Her small, tear-choked voice trembled but carried through the room.

“I-I’m not a crybaby, and I won’t just stand here and let you push me around anymore.”

She lifted her hand and shoved Nathan hard.

Nathan stared at her in disbelief. He hadn’t expected Evelyn to actually have the courage to push him.

Christopher’s face stayed cold as he steadied Nathan. “Is this how you’re teaching our daughter?”

Amelia sneered. “Evie is my daughter. How I teach her has nothing to do with you. But your “obedient” son? If

don’t teach him properly, there will be plenty of people who will.”

Nicole frowned. “What are you two arguing about? Is there some kind of misunderstanding?”

She looked at Christopher.

“Chris, every time I appear in Mia’s life, she seems to have a big problem with me. Maybe I shouldn’t have come today, either. You both should attend Nate’s parent-teacher meeting. I’ll leave.”

Nathan grabbed Nicole’s hand tightly. “Mommy! You can’t leave. You’re my mommy!”

Nicole’s heart jolted.

Amelia raised an eyebrow and glanced at Christopher. His expression didn’t change at all, as if he wasn’t shocked by Nathan calling Nicole Mommy.

“What did you just call me?”

Nathan replied, “You’re my mommy. You’re supposed to come to my parent-teacher meeting. Don’t you want to be my mommy?”

Nicole’s eyes flicked toward Christopher.

He stayed silent, saying nothing.

That silence, in a way, was a kind of approval.

“You give me baths every day, help me with my homework, take me out to see the world, and let me eat all kinds of delicious food. You’re my mommy,” Nathan continued, his gaze now on Amelia. “I’ve never had a mommy who’s a country bumpkin and doesn’t know anything!”

Amelia pursed her lips. It seemed that since she had left Harbor Villa, Nicole had always been there.

Well, she didn’t care that Nathan was changing how he addressed Nicole.

After all, that boy had never truly been hers. In her past life, she had raised him for five years. She had long since stopped wanting him.
