Nicole smiled.

“Why won’t they come? They should be fighting for a chance like this. Infotech is the trump card of the industry. They’d be able to learn a lot through interacting with our technical personnel. They wanted to participate in all those industry summits, right? Didn’t they do it in the name of improving and learning?”

It didn’t make sense for them to miss this dinner.

“Something cropped up at the last minute.” Christopher’s explanation was short and succinct.

Nicole and Luke both looked surprised.

“They’re not coming?” Luke said in disbelief. “What right do they have to behave this way? Are they trying to act like they’re all that? They’re upset that they had to sign the bet-on agreement and are deliberately standing us up.”

Nicole saw the cold look on Christopher’s face. He seemed unperturbed by them dropping out.

They really didn’t seem to care about offending Christopher, even though he personally called them to come

over.

“They might really be busy. As a small company that just signed on such a large-scale project, they might be in a mess back at their office. They might be feeling anxious about signing the bet-on agreement. How would they have the time to have a meal with us?” Nicole said.

She poured some wine, chuckling.

“It’s fine if we lose the bet, but they’ll lose everything if they lose. All their hard work would be in vain.”

She was right.

They were biting off more than they could chew. How could they not be anxious?

They were bound to lose!

Nicole handed a glass of wine to Christopher. “She’s your ex-wife, after all. Do show her some mercy.”

Christopher looked at the wine glass before him.

Luke muttered, “Why speak up for her? If she hadn’t snatched what belonged to you right from the start…”

Mrs. Zephyr might just be someone else.

Only Nicole had the magnanimity to forgive and plead for such a scheming woman.

Luke only wished Amelia would suffer a hard fall.

She was completely overestimating herself, thinking that anyone could succeed in this field. Did she really think she had the capabilities to succeed?

She didn’t even have a postgraduate degree. The cheek of her to act so proudly and haughtily in front of them!

Nicole shushed him. “Enough now.”

Luke immediately shut up.

He knew what was going on between the three of them. Nicole and Christopher were the ones who grew up together.

Yet, Amelia had to come between them. They were still not officially divorced yet, so Nicole and Christopher couldn’t go out in public as a couple.

Luke sometimes found the entire situation laughable.

The true homewrecker was sitting in the position of the legitimate wife. Amelia was scheming indeed!

What a disgusting woman she was!

The next day, after preparing the necessary documents, Amelia followed Jasper to meet with the materials company. Once they secured the partnership, the product could officially go into production.

They had agreed to meet for dinner.

The partner was courteous to them, but drinking was indispensable at the dinner table.

Amelia and Jasper drank a lot.

After about three rounds of drinks, Amelia started feeling lightheaded and warm in the stomach. She went outside for some fresh air, gripping the railing tight as she rubbed her temple with another hand.

Someone handed her a cup of tea and said, “Drink this. Take a break tomorrow and rest at home.”

Amelia turned to see Jasper looking quietly at her.

“Call for a cab later.”

Amelia took the tea from him and sipped on it. “Has he left?”
