Reborn Without You (Amelia and Christopher) novel Chapter 246

Chapter 246

The night was long and arduous.

A daughter’s expectation of her father’s love would always be an ache in her heart.

Despite all the ruthless things Amelia had said to Evelyn about how they would no longer have anything to do with Christopher, for a child to let go of her affection for her father was easier said than done.

Christopher was clearly her father.

Why couldn’t she address him as that?

It was something drilled into her since she was young.

If Amelia told Evelyn right now that Christopher wasn’t her father, Evelyn wouldn’t be upset. She would just show that she had calmly accepted the fact that they had to move out.

Yet, she would still be upset by a photo of the three of them out on a holiday.

She might be wondering, what kind of father would only love his son and not his daughter and wife?

It was difficult to ask a child to forget about her affection for a parent.

Amelia felt helpless about the situation.

She could only hope that time would heal all wounds. Psychologically speaking, there was nothing she could do to help Evelyn.

She stood up and tiptoed out of Evelyn’s room, then started searching online for consultants on children’s

mental health.

However, it was too late at night. By now, most consultants were already off work.

Amelia stood on the balcony and stared at the vast night sky. Cold wind blew against her face, waking her up from her dizzy spell.

The headache from drinking all that alcohol came in waves. She lowered her head and stood under the night sky for a long time.

The next morning, Amelia freshened herself up and sent Evelyn to school.

At the entrance of the kindergarten, she bumped into Christopher.

He was in loungewear and looked like he had just come back from a beach holiday. He seldom sent his son to school in person.

Nathan scoffed when he saw Amelia and Evelyn, then walked away with his backpack on his shoulders.

Evelyn was stunned to see her father.

She stared straight at Christopher.

Christopher seemed to notice her stare and looked down at her.

“Had your breakfast?” he asked casually.

Evelyn moved her lips, her heart beating fast. She wanted to give him an answer, but was so nervous she was at a loss for what to say.

She wanted to say everything on her mind, but couldn’t utter a single word.

Her father seldom spoke to her, and she looked at him expectantly yet fearfully.

Christopher didn’t receive an answer from Evelyn and handed a bag of food to her.

He said softly, “Here’s something you like.”

Evelyn’s heart leapt to her throat as she raised a hand to take the bag from Christopher. She was about to touch it when Amelia snatched it away.

Evelyn was stunned for a moment. She looked at her mom, biting her lip in confusion.

Amelia patted Evelyn’s head and said gently, “We shouldn’t take things from people we’re not close to.”

Evelyn blinked at her father.

He looked back at her indifferently.

She retracted her gaze and nodded.

Yet, she couldn’t help but look back longingly at Christopher as she walked away.

After Evelyn was gone, Amelia flung the bag of food into the trash can. She looked coldly at Christopher.

“What do you

want?”

Christopher’s eyes were dark as he saw the icy look on Amelia’s face.

She was clearly trying to show how much she didn’t want her and her daughter to have anything to do with him.

Christopher fell silent for a while, then said, “Regarding the bet-on agreement, if you can’t do it, I can pretend it never happened.”

Then, he reminded her, “You should do what you can and don’t overestimate yourself.”

Amelia didn’t think he was trying to give her a reason to back down. He was just trying to give the position of project lead back to Nicole.
