Chapter 251
Dorothy sounded even more tired.
“Grandma, I’ve been very busy with work recently.”
“Mia… Chris said that you’ve been busy with work. What can make you busier than Chris?”
Amelia paused for a moment, unsure of how to answer Dorothy’s question.
She neither wanted to see Christopher back at Whitmore Manor nor did she want to have any interactions with any of the Zephyrs.
However, she had signed that agreement.
She could avoid it a few times, but certainly not forever. She would have to return someday.
She had already rejected Dorothy many times.
As Amelia fell silent, guilt started gnawing at Dorothy’s heart.
“Last time, when Evie got injured… I really didn’t mean for that to happen. You never came back after that… You didn’t even bring Evie to the Randalls’ funeral.”
Dorothy felt horrible over her granddaughter’s injury.
Her heart ached at the prospect of something bad happening to Evelyn. She knew that nothing she did, not even at the expense of her own life, would be sufficient as compensation. She could sense that Amelia was deliberately putting distance between her and Evelyn.
After thinking about it day and night, Dorothy concluded that the reason must be Evelyn’s last injury.
“You can just come to Whitmore Manor alone, even without Evie.”
Dorothy kept giving in.
Amelia saw Dorothy as her own grandmother. She couldn’t possibly break off all ties with those who were good to her just because of her personal grudges with Christopher.
She took a deep breath and, rather helplessly, said, “I’ll head over after work.”
When Amelia drove to Whitmore Manor after work, she saw Christopher’s car parked outside the entrance.
She headed straight in and could immediately smell the fragrance of chicken soup in the air.
She saw Christopher trimming the greenery in the courtyard. He was dressed in casual wear, standing tall yet isolated amidst the greenery.
Amelia pretended not to see him as she brushed past him. There wasn’t anything for them to talk about, and there was certainly no need for her to greet him.
Christopher paused for a moment, staring silently at her for a while before asking, “Do you need any help? I heard Nicole snatched a partner from you.”
He sounded as though he was just talking about domestic affairs.
To Amelia, however, he was just treating her as a joke.
He wanted to see her begging him.
Despite looking as though he wanted to help her out of the good intentions of his heart, she knew very well that he was biased toward Nicole.
Asking for his help would only serve to humiliate herself even further.
Amelia smirked. “No need for that.”
“Hmm.”
Christopher hummed, ignoring her cold treatment. He continued trimming the tree.
“Feel free to let me know if you face any difficulties. We’re still legally married, and I’ll take responsibility for you.
