Chapter 265
She wanted to find out the reason why the car brake didn’t work
Jasper’s heart was still pounding hard in his chest. His jawl he was tense as he bit out, “That really scared me.”
His mind went blank when he saw the frightening scene before him earlier.
He had to admit that Christopher was really willing to put his life on the line for Nicole’s sake.
Jasper took a deep breath to calm himself down before checking that Amelia was physically fine. He didn’t notice any open wounds or injury.
“I’ll only feel at ease if you go for a check at the hospital.”
If there were any underlying effects…
“I’m really fine,” Amelia assured him. “Aside from the adrenaline surge earlier, I don’t feel unwell anywhere.”
She looked at the blood stains on the ground. It seemed like Christopher was quite badly Injured.
He had really almost lost his life just to save Nicole. a
Amelia took a deep breath and retracted her gaze.
Amella’s car was towed to an automobile workshop for thorough investigation.
The traffic police contacted Christopher for the necessary follow-ups and investigation.
Amelia still felt lingering fear all the way back home.
“Don’t keep dwelling on it,” Jasper said gently. “It might just be the car malfunctioning.”
“Yeah.”
Amelia could only think this way for now.
When Winona heard about what happened, she immediately called Amelia to check in on the latter. She only felt relieved when Amelia assured her multiple times that she was fine.
However, Amelia couldn’t help but wonder how Christopher was doing right now.
She was the one who escaped unscathed.
After thinking it through, she eventually decided not to call to check in on him. She simply washed up and got ready for bed.
The next day, the police reached out to Amelia and called her to the hospital to follow up on the incident.
The police needed both parties to be present. Since Christopher was unable to report to the police station, Amelia had to accommodate by making a trip to the hospital.
At the lobby of the hospital, Amelia walked past a fruit stall and decided to get a fruit basket.
When she arrived at the door, she knocked on it, to which Nicole answered.
Nicole’s eyes turned cold when she saw that it was Amelia the door. “What a jinx.”
“Come on in,” Christopher’s voice sounded from inside the ward.

Nicole’s face went dark with displeasure. She turned to one side and let Amelia into the room.
“Chris, I’ll get some water for you to wipe you down.”
Christopher nodded. “Okay.”
Nicole left, and Amelia placed the fruit basket on the table.
Christopher was working, his laptop open right before him.
His right hand was all bandaged up. On the two occasions he came to Nicole’s rescue, he had injured his right hand.
He was truly besotted with her.
“The police will come over later to issue a traffic accident liability certificate.”
Christopher looked up from his laptop and stared at Amelia in silence.
He then said, “I called the police and told them we’ll settle it privately. How do you wish to be compensated?”
Amelia was utterly confused by the turn of events.
“I asked Nicole to go in your car. I’ll take responsibility for whatever happens to her. I willingly came to her rescue, and I’ll bear your losses as well.” Christopher said with an arched brow. “Should I compensate you for a new car?”
He drew a clear line between private affairs and work relationships.
At that moment, Amelia swallowed the thank you that was on the tip of her tongue.
She had benefitted from Christopher’s help and should thank him for it. She was grateful for his help, and it was a separate matter from everything else that was happening.
Yet now, he was making it clear that he didn’t need her to thank him.
He was making his stance very clear.
He had come to Nicole’s aid, and it had nothing to do with her. Everything else should be dealt with by the book.
Since he had said so, it would only seem pretentious of her to turn him down.
In that case, Amelia decided to graciously accept his offer.
She looked at Christopher’s hand and suddenly asked, “Did you only injure your right hand? What did the doctor say?”
“I’m fine. Just a slight fracture,” Christopher said nonchalantly.
That meant nothing else was wrong.
Amelia nodded. “Would it affect our meeting at the clerk’s office tomorrow?”
