Chapter 266
Christopher’s eyes narrowed as he stared at Amelia.
Silence ensued in the room.
With just the two of them in the enclosed space, the tension in the air was palpable.
Amelia suddenly felt as though her question was inappropriate.
However, she had to ask it.
Their divorce was of utmost importance to her right now. She no longer wanted to have anything more to do with him for the rest of her life.
Christopher’s silence confused Amelia.
The deafening silence felt rather suffocating, and every subile move she made seemed to be magnified in his eyes.
Amelia stood where she was and looked at him.
“If you can’t make it, we can postpone it to another day. The last time you were knocked over by a horse, you were hospitalized for your injuries as well. Yet, it didn’t affect us signing the divorce agreement, did it?”
This time, his injury shouldn’t delay their meeting at the clerk’s office to get their divorce certificate.
She had specifically made time tomorrow to get their certificate.
Her schedule was packed during this busy period. She didn’t want any changes to her appointment if she could help it.
Christopher suddenly chuckled and shut the laptop before him.
“You ingrate.”
He didn’t say it very loudly, but enough for Amelia to catch what he said.
Ingrate? Was he talking about her?
What an unreasonable accusation!
She hated being unfairly accused.
Crossing her arms before her chest, Amelia looked at Christopher on the bed and asked, “Did I bite the hand that fed me or repay kindness with evil?”
How was she an ingrate?
On both occasions, Christopher had saved Nicole. Strictly speaking, he wasn’t exactly her benefactor.
“Chris, I have some hot water here. You can freshen yourself up with it.”
Nicole glanced at Amelia, who was still in the ward.
“Ms. Sinclair, please excuse yourself,” Nicole said. “It’s no appropriate for you to be here.”
Amelia thought she heard something outrageous. Did Nicole seriously see herself as a man?
“Don’t forget our appointment. I’ll be waiting.”
With that, Amelia turned to leave.

She didn’t want to stick around; looking at them both acting lovey-dovey would only be an eyesore for her.
Amelia left resolutely, her face cold and distant.
Nicole saw her retreating figure and snorted. “What is she so arrogant about?”
Her gaze fell on the fruit basket on the table. It was obviously bought from downstairs.
Nicole scoffed. What an insincere gift!
The cheek of Amelia to present this as a gift…
“You saved her life, and this is the kind of attitude she’s showing to you,” Nicole snorted as she threw the fruit basket into the trash can. “You might get an upset stomach from eating this.”
Christopher glanced at the fruit basket in the trash can and lazily retracted his gaze. “What’s the point of venting your frustration on some fruits?”
Nicole paused for a moment. She thought about what Christopher said.
Christopher had saved her. What reason did she have to feel frustrated?
He had only saved Amelia by accident, who inadvertently benefited from Nicole’s presence in her car.
Nicole was the one Amelia should be grateful for, and not Christopher. Otherwise, Amelia would have died without question yesterday.
On second thought, did she come today with a fruit basket because she was starting to regret the divorce? Or did she mistakenly think that Christopher saved her?
Was that why she hurried over to thank him?
Nicole scoffed again. Amelia was such a narcissist! She thought so highly of herself.
A woman like her was nothing more than a big, fat joke in Nicole’s eyes.
The next morning, Amelia rose from bed early. She had planned out her work schedule for the day and emailed it out before freshening up and heading to the clerk’s office.
She didn’t want anything to go wrong with their divorce proceedings,
It was nine on the dot when she arrived, and the clerk’s office had just opened its doors.
However, Christopher was nowhere to be seen yet.
