Chapter 269
They had to leave things as they were and wait for the resuls of the investigation.
The priority right now was to see the project through to its success.
Amelia dove headfirst into work.
It was almost the end of the workday when she received a call from Christopher.
She paused for a moment. Since they were already divorced she should blacklist his number.
Unfortunately, the various terms and conditions in the divorce agreement she signed stopped her from being able to do so.
Aside from work and the terms that required her to keep their divorce confidential, Amelia no longer wanted any personal interactions with Christopher.
Amelia thought for a moment. Each time he called, it was always for a legitimate reason.
She decided to answer it.
“What do you want?” she asked coldly.
“Your car is down, and it’s not convenient for you to go to work or fetch Evelyn to and from school. Are you free to come to the car showroom to get your car?”
When he promised to compensate her, he naturally wouldn’t go back on his word.
Amelia didn’t expect the compensation to come so soon. It felt as though he was equally eager to cut off all ties with her as soon as possible.
So be it.
Amelia didn’t want to continue being entangled with him in their private affairs. It was best for them to settle everything between them.
“Right now?”
“Of course, if you have the time.”
Amelia hailed a cab and headed to the car showroom.
Inside, Christopher was already waiting.
He looked at Amelia and said generously, “Pick one you like!”
Many models were on display in the showroom.
Amelia didn’t have many requirements for a car. She looked around her and picked one.
Christopher looked at her choice. “Are you sure?”
It was from the X7 series and cost about 700 thousand dollars. It was even cheaper than her current car.
Amelia nodded. “Yes.”
She didn’t care much about the price.
When they had just gotten married, Christopher bought her previous car for her. She had treated it as a treasure.

A salesman approached them with a friendly smile.
“Mr. Zephyr, you’re so good to your girlfriend,” the salesman praised. “She’s so beautiful, too.”
They were just divorced; yet here they were, being mistake as a couple.
Amelia found it exceedingly annoying.
“Pardon me,” she said as she signed her name on the bill, but I have nothing to do with him. He crashed into my car, and he’s compensating me.”
The salesman chuckled awkwardly.
“I’ll pay by card,” Christopher said lazily. He glanced at Amelia and asked, “Want to bring it for a test drive?”
“No need,” she turned him down coldly.
Amelia didn’t want to stay around for too long.
After settling the bill and going through the necessary procedures, Amelia opened the car door with her bag in hand and drove off.
Nigel saw how resolute and decisive she was and remarked, “Why does Ms. Sinclair feel like a completely different person after the divorce?”
Did she get possessed?
She had always been submissive and very clingy to Mr. Zephyr.
Yet now, she was so eager to draw a clear line between them. It was obvious she didn’t want to stay here a second longer.
Christopher turned to look at Nigel in silence.
Nigel knew he had crossed a line with his remarks and shut up.
“Back to the hospital,” Christopher said.
As Amelia drove the car out of the showroom, she found it a comfortable drive.
She wasn’t picky with her cars.
Aside from racing cars, she didn’t find much difference between ordinary sedans.
It was already evening when she knocked off. The sunset gave off a beautiful, orange glow.
Without the burdens of an unhappy marriage, Amelia was beginning to see the bright side of life.
