Reborn Without You (Amelia and Christopher) novel Chapter 271

Chapter 271

Amelia really didn’t want to go back to that house.

“What are you talking about? You’re Mrs. Zephyr. Nothing can be too troublesome when your health is on the line. That’ll save you a trip to the hospital when you’re already working so hard. That settles it, you hear me?” Dorothy said sternly.

She wasn’t taking no for an answer.

No one was able to reject an arrangement she was bent on making, especially if it concerned Amelia’s health.

There was a period of time when Amelia’s health suffered. Dorothy and Adelaide had been running around like headless chickens, beyond anxious about her health.

Dorothy always assumed that Amelia was weak and frail because she kept falling sick when she was young, and insisted on a thorough checkup whenever Amelia had any minor problems.

She was very worried about Amelia’s health going awry.

Amelia sighed and glanced at her watch. She was running out of time to go to the factory, but she didn’t want Dorothy worrying about her, either.

She eventually relented.

“Got it, Grandma.”

Dorothy finally felt relieved.

“I can’t believe no one told me that something so major happened. If I hadn’t heard it from Luke, I’d probably still be in the dark about it.”

Amelia pursed her lips and tried to coax Dorothy, “You’re getting advanced in years. I didn’t want you worrying about me.”

Dorothy nagged a little bit more before hanging up.

After hanging up, Amelia immediately drove to the factory. She only ended work at eight, then prepared to drive to her marital home.

She thought about it, then decided to call Christopher.

He answered the call after a long time.

“What’s the matter?” Christopher asked coldly.

“Are you at the marital house?”

Christopher said, “I’m at the hospital.”

His replies were curt, as though he didn’t want to say too much.

Amelia relayed to him her conversation with Dorothy and asked, “Is it convenient for me to go to the marital house?”

They were officially divorced, after all.

He had also bought the house from her, so now, it was his private property. It wasn’t appropriate for her to go there without permission.

Amelia didn’t have the habit of trespassing.

“Since Grandma wants you there, just go ahead. You don’t need to inform me.”

Amelia fell silent.

Christopher went on, “If you can’t reach me, are you just going to not go there? I don’t want unnecessary trouble.”

Amelia immediately understood what he meant.

He might not be able to take her calls because of a meeting, or because he simply didn’t want to answer her calls.

He was indirectly telling her not to keep calling him.

If she didn’t go to the marital home because he didn’t answer her calls, it would be troublesome for him to explain things to Dorothy if she were to ask him about it.

“Chris, time to wash up. Who are you on the phone with?” Nicole’s voice sounded through the phone.

“I won’t bother you any longer.”

Amelia hung up.

She drove all the way to their marital home.

When she arrived, she saw Nathan seated in the living room watching TV.

Nathan turned to look at the door.

When he saw that it was Amelia, he pursed his lips and looked away, unbothered by her sudden appearance.

He wasn’t welcoming of her at all.

Anna immediately approached Amelia when she saw her arrive.

“The doctor is waiting in the guest room upstairs. Madam Zephyr wants you to do a basic checkup here. If there are any problems, you’ll have to go to the hospital for further assessment.”

Amelia nodded before heading upstairs.

This time, the medical team was filled with female doctors who gave her a basic checkup. They also asked her a series of questions.

After confirming that there were no other issues, the medical team left.

Amelia headed downstairs and got ready to leave after making sure that the medical team had left, so that it wouldn’t arouse Dorothy’s suspicions.

Anna was setting the table when she saw Amelia come downstairs.

“Madam, Mr. Zephyr is back. Why don’t you stay for supper”
