Chapter 30

Amelia was amused.

Yes, she knew exactly what was going on. Did that mean she had to keep bending over backward for Nicole and her son?

“Your mess is none of my concern.”

She grabbed Evelyn’s hand and turned to leave.

Earlier, Jasper had messaged her, saying there was an emergency meeting at the institute, and he couldn’t make it. He said he could get one of his juniors to come instead, but Amelia didn’t want the trouble and politely refused.

She had initially asked him to come so he could participate in the activities, but the rest of the planned activities probably wouldn’t even happen now.

Because of that, she saw no reason to waste her time getting tangled up with Christopher and the others.

Amelia had only taken a few steps when a group entered through the gate. She narrowed her eyes and looked at the person leading them.

It was the school board.

When the teachers saw them, they rushed over with anxious expressions.

“Principal!”

Their sudden arrival made the teachers uneasy.

The principal, William Brown, had a stern look on his face. “Do school rules and discipline exist only for those with influence to ignore at will? The director of the education department even called me directly!”

The teachers stiffened. “W-We didn’t approve of anything Madam Zephyr did.”

“You did the right thing.” William’s gaze landed on Lucia. “Our school does not tolerate using power to bully others. Nathan publicly accused Evelyn of cheating, and he will receive a formal disciplinary warning. And if there is a next time, any bullying like this will lead to immediate expulsion.”

Lucia’s face darkened instantly. “What are you saying? There’s no such thing! My grandson didn’t do what you’re claiming. Sibling squabbles are normal. Is that really something the school should intervene in?”

William said, “Do you really need the whole internet buzzing for days about this before you’ll admit you’re wrong? Influence and power don’t make you above consequences.”

Lucia paused. She didn’t take it seriously, as it was just some online gossip. Even if it really started trending, she could just bury it with some celebrity entertainment news.

“This is a school matter. First place belongs to my grandson, not my granddaughter! And besides, my granddaughter pushed my grandson. I’m asking her to apologize. That’s a family matter,” she snapped.

“Family matters should be handled at home. The rules of the competition are clear. First place goes to Evelyn, regardless of your influence. If whoever has the most power automatically gets first place, then how can this

school ever be fair?”

The school’s reputation had to be protected. It couldn’t be muddied by petty disputes.

Nathan lowered his head, feeling wronged. Even a child has pride. He hadn’t beaten Evelyn this time. Next time, he would win!

Plus, there was no way Evelyn could have done it without cheating. Ten minutes to finish a first-grade math test? Impossible!

“But-”

Christopher stepped forward, his voice icy. “Mom, this is Nate’s fault. Stop twisting the facts.”

He looked at William. “This won’t happen again.”

William met Christopher’s gaze. “I trust you’ll keep a close watch on your son’s every word and action, Mr. Zephyr. Also, your son and daughter are both yours. Why treat them differently?”

Amelia didn’t stay to hear more. She took Evelyn’s hand and left.

William glanced after them, originally planning to exchange a few polite words. He turned to the homeroom teacher. “Evelyn is a promising child. The school should focus on nurturing her.”

The teacher nodded. “Of course. Mr. Zephyr is already exceptional, so his daughter will naturally be the same. We’ll make sure she’s properly nurtured.”

William shook his head. Excellence wasn’t inherited automatically. It was earned through effort, and it didn’t matter whose child she was. Her achievements were the result of her own efforts.

Amelia and Evelyn returned to the classroom to gather their things. Then they headed to the underground parking garage, ready to leave.

When they reached the garage, Amelia saw Christopher standing beside her car.

The man stood tall and poised, dressed all in black, his presence somehow clashing with the car behind him.

When Evelyn saw her father, her heart skipped a beat.

He had always been cold toward her.
