Reborn Without You (Amelia and Christopher) novel Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Winona smirked mockingly. “What, that homewrecker?”

Jasper glanced at his assistant. “I haven’t scheduled a meeting with her. Did she make an appointment?”

The assistant pursed her lips. “I notified you yesterday. Mr. Zephyr from Cloudway Technologies requested a meeting, saying it was about a technical collaboration.”

Amelia wasn’t unfamiliar with the name. Cloudway Technologies was a company under the Zephyr Group, handling aerospace and aviation projects. Christopher usually stayed at headquarters and rarely went there.

Jasper suddenly remembered that such a thing had happened yesterday.

Before he could say anything, the group came laughing and talking from the other side.

“Seriously, with Nikki’s skills being so top-notch, why are we partnering her with such a small company?”

Luke trailed along, never stopping his chatter.

Nicole replied, “Mr. Langley is Mr. Hale’s most trusted apprentice and a key talent from Institute 511. Working with him is truly an honor for me. Plus, today I’ll get to meet the chief designer of the Eos X7, and I’d like to discuss a few ideas with him.”

Luke nodded. “True. Missed him at the last competition. Today, at least, we get to see the real deal.”

“Mia?” Nicole glanced up and froze when she saw Amelia. She hesitated, unsure if she was seeing things.

Amelia was dressed in a sleek black trench coat, her long hair pulled into a low ponytail, soft waves framing her

face. She looked cold and radiant all at once.

Truly a stunning beauty that could stop anyone in their tracks.

“Such a coincidence! What are you doing here?” Nicole greeted her with a smile.

Luke crossed his arms and sneered. “Only you think it’s a coincidence. She’s just Chris’s shadow. Wherever Chris goes, she follows. You can practically read her thoughts on her face. Too bad you’ve got the wrong information. Chris isn’t here today.”

Winona snorted. “Is Christopher some kind of saint everyone’s supposed to adore?”

Nicole nudged Luke. “Enough, stop running your mouth like a man-child. We’re here to talk business.

Then, she straightened her back, her eyes sparkling with a smile as she looked at Amelia. “Are you here for work too? If I’d known you were coming, I would’ve asked Chris to make a recommendation. It’d be nice to be colleagues.”

Luke laughed coldly, dripping with sarcasm. “Amelia? She’s just a housewife at home with kids. What work can she even apply for here? She can’t even cook for all these people. Her whole life revolves around the kitchen.” 1

“You-“Winona steamed with anger, about to speak up, but Amelia grabbed her arm to stop her.

“Why waste energy on someone without class?” Amella asked calmly.

“Who’s the one without class?” Luke pointed at Amelia’s nose. “You stole someone else’s husband, and you have the nerve to say I lack class?”

A married woman should be at home taking care of her kids. What was she showing off for out in the world?

Winona couldn’t hold back. “Ugh! Who would want a jerk like that? These days, people treat trash like treasure.”

If Amelia hadn’t stopped her, Winona would’ve charged straight at Luke.

“All right, Winnie.” Amelia held her friend’s arm and then looked at Jasper. “You go ahead with your work. Winnie and I will just look around.”

She didn’t want to hold Jasper back or interfere with his business because of her.

Watching them leave, Nicole wanted to have a more in-depth conversation with Jasper. After all, she wanted to strengthen her ties with Jasper, since his connection to Institute 511 would be valuable for her work.

“Mr. Langley, sorry, my friend is just ”

Jasper shook his head. “Come with me.”

He didn’t want to dig any deeper into what had just happened.

Nicole followed him to the reception room.

Jasper was courteous and modest. He treated every visitor with politeness and care. But when they stepped out of the reception room, Nicole understood exactly what Jasper meant.
