Reborn Without You (Amelia and Christopher) novel Chapter 41

Chapter 41

Jasper had no intention of working with Nicole,

Nicole rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on. With her current skills and education, she could easily carve out her own path at Nova Nine Technologies. There’s no reason Jasper wouldn’t want to collaborate with her. She just wanted to make use of Jasper as a professional contact.

Luke said, “I think Winona and Amella probably said some bad things about you to Jasper.”

“It’s fine,” Nicole smiled. “I’ll call Chris and fill him in. He always finds a way.”

She was excellent at focusing on research, but when it came to professional networking, she still needed Christopher.

Winona struggled as Amella pulled her away, still fuming.

“Why do you keep holding me back? I really want to go up there and rip his mouth off!”

Amella pursed her lips. “Was it really worth getting that worked up over?”

Winona rolled her eyes. “You’re ridiculously tolerant, aren’t you? That’s why you’re the only one who can keep that cool! Did you hear that she wanted to meet the chief designer of the Eos X7? If she knew it was you, she’d be completely floored.”

“Enough. You show me around the company,” Amelia said. She needed to familiarize herself with her new workspace and get into the right mindset.

On the other side, Christopher had just stepped out of a meeting when he got a call from Nicole.

“I got it.”

He walked toward the elevator, his voice calm as he asked, “How long has Amelia been gone from the company?

His secretary, Clark Lowell, hesitated for a moment. “She’s been gone for a little over a week.”

Christopher’s lips lifted in the faintest curve, but he didn’t say anything further.

Clark read his mood and said, “Frankly speaking, Ms. Sinclair’s position is dispensable. While she was here, she mostly caused trouble or tried to make herself noticed in front of you. She didn’t actually contribute much. The company doesn’t need her. If you want hand-brewed coffee, I can hire a new assistant.”

Christopher hummed in response.

Nothing was irreplaceable.

Amelia’s role had always been one of those positions anyone could fill. She wasn’t indispensable, and she wasn’t the only one capable of making hand-brewed coffee.

Inwardly, Clark thought it strange. He had no idea what Amelia had been trying to prove by leaving. Did she think Christopher would feel lost without her? In reality, it took him this long to even notice she was gone. Her presence in the company had been as invisible as air.

Christopher glanced at his wristwatch. “Is tomorrow the open day at Institute 511?”

Clark nodded. “Yes, industry elites will tour the core labs.”

Chris nodded, then said, “I heard Institute 511 has a new project hiring engineers. Get an invitation and take it to Nikki. She needs a chance to make a name for herself in the industry.”

Clark understood immediately.

Christopher was clearly paving the way for his childhood friend.

Originally, Nicole had a chance to shine in the ISSDC competition, but out of nowhere, Sophia appeared. Sophia was a legendary genius in the field, and even someone as talented as Nicole still had room to grow. Otherwise, how could she be struggling at a relatively small company like Nova Nine Technologies?

Amelia spent the day at Nova Nine Technologies, familiarizing herself with the operations of each department. By the afternoon, it was time to pick up Evelyn from school.

“I’m coming with you,” Winona said.

Amelia shook her head. “You’ve been running around with me all day. Get some rest and stop worrying. When I really need backup, I won’t forget to put you to work. I’m taking Evie shopping after I pick her up. I doubt your delicate self can handle it.”

Winona pouted. “Are you looking down on me? I’m just exhausted today! But as your loyal bestie, I was gonna be your back up!”

Amelia looked at her in bewilderment, then turned to leave.
