In Christopher’s eyes, neither Evelyn nor Amelia had ever been important.

At the children’s clothing store, Amelia never skimped on Evelyn. No matter how tight things were, she always gave her the best.

The moment they walked in, the shop owner’s cheerful voice rang out.

“Mr. and Mrs. Zephyr, your son is so handsome! You all look so happy together. And Mrs. Zephyr, you’re absolutely stunning. Your son looks just like you.”

The owner laughed warmly. “Mr. Zephyr, with a wife like yours raising such a fine son, I’m sure she keeps the household running perfectly too. You’re a lucky man.”

Christopher didn’t bother explaining his relationship with Nicole. He calmly said, “Nikki will be an engineer at Institute 511 one day, a pillar of the nation. The household chores are handled by the nanny.”

Amelia exhaled sharply, gripping Evelyn’s hand a little tighter.

In his eyes, Nicole was destined to shine brighter than anyone else in the world. Amelia’s sacrifices at home? They were expected. To him, she was nothing more than the nanny.

“Mommy, it hurts,” Evelyn whispered.

Only then did Amelia release her. Without a word, she led Evelyn silently out of the store.

Once they were a safe distance away, Evelyn spoke. “Mommy, is Daddy going to marry Ms. Nikki?”

Amelia froze, unsure how to answer.

“Hey, Mia,” Jasper called out, walking toward her with a lollipop in hand. “Shopping alone with Evelyn?”

He stepped up and handed the lollipop to Evelyn. It was clear he had picked it out for Evelyn in advance and had come prepared.

“Thank you, Mr. Jazz,” Evelyn said, smiling brightly.

“Why are you here?”

Jasper had one hand in his pocket as he replied, “I missed the parent-teacher meeting the other day because something came up, and I’ve felt bad about it since. When Winona told me you were here, I thought I’d come by to carry bags for you two lovely ladies.

“After we shop, we’ll grab a bite, then I’ll show you the apartment I picked out for you,” he added.

Amelia laughed without restraint. Evelyn adored Jasper and clung to him without letting go. In his arms, she felt warm, safe, and protected.

It felt like she had a real father looking after her.

Kids grew fast, and Evelyn’s clothes from last year barely fit anymore. So, Amelia bought her plenty of new

outfits.

Seeing Evelyn still nestled in Jasper’s arms, Amelia spoke up. “Come on, get down from Mr. Jazz’s arms. Let’s walk for a bit.”

“I don’t wanna,” Evelyn whined, snuggling closer.

Jasper chuckled softly. “If she likes it, I’ll keep holding her.”

“Don’t spoil her too much,” Amelia warned. “She’ll get used to it.”

“No problem.” Jasper carried Evelyn in one arm, the other hand juggling bags of all sizes.

Amelia reached to help carry the bags, but Jasper waved her off. Still in his arms, Evelyn beamed up at her.” Mommy, Mr. Jazz is strong. You don’t have to fight him for the bags.”

The three of them walked along, laughing and chatting, their backlit silhouettes looking every bit like a happy little family.

Elsewhere, Luke arrived to deliver Nicols’ invitation to the Institute 511 open day.

Nicole and Christopher emerged from the store with Nathan, freshly outfitted in new clothes.

“Nikki, use the visit to Institute 511 to meet more people. Don’t get too fixated on Jasper,” Luke said as they walked. “We can have a meal together today and get a fuller understanding of Nova Nine-”

He glanced up and caught sight of a familiar figure. Squinting, he focused on her back. “Isn’t that Amelia? Why is she with Jasper?”

Nicole raised an eyebrow and followed Luke’s gaze.

Luke turned away and scoffed coldly. “Well, she’s got some nerve. Cheating during marriage and now she’s already lining up a new dad for her kid?”
