Luke’s voice dripped with disdain.
“No wonder Nikki and I almost got turned away at Nova Nine today. Turns out Jasper’s her new fling. What a sly one. Back in the day, she went after Chris, and now she’s trying to seduce Jasper. She really knows her way around.”
Nicole shot him a sharp look. “Seriously, why do you talk so much nonsense? Do you have any idea what you’re saying in front of a kid? Mia’s a total stunner. She’s not that kind of person. And besides, Mr. Langley is Mr. Hale’s trusted apprentice and a core engineer at Institute 511. There’s no way he’d lose his head over lust.”
Nicole turned to Christopher. “Chris, maybe you should go say hello to Mia?”
Christopher didn’t seem to care at all about Amelia. He glanced at his watch and said “Let’s eat first.
“Hungry?” He looked down at Nathan, his tone gentle.
“I’ve been hungry forever.” Nathan hugged his father’s leg. “I want fried chicken today.”
Christopher frowned slightly, keeping his expression calm. “You should cut back on fast food.”
“Oh, boys aren’t that delicate.” Nicole pinched Nathan’s cheek. “Don’t worry, I’ve got you. Whatever you want today, you’ll get.”
“You’re the best, Mommy!” Nathan planted a big kiss on her cheek.
She was so much better than the housewife at home!
After lunch, it was time to check out the new place. Evelyn still had homework, so Amelia called Claire to come and pick her up, taking her back to the villa.
The new apartment was located in a good school district, featuring a two-bedroom unit with approximately 500 square feet of space, conveniently close to the kindergarten, Institute 511, and Nova Nine Technologies. Whether it was dropping off Evelyn or commuting to work, the location was perfect.
“This one’s 4,500 a month.”
In the heart of the pricey city, this central apartment was a steal.
Amelia finally made up her mind. Staying in hotels with Evelyn all the time was no long-term solution.
“Knowing you, I figured this would catch your eye,” Jasper said. “So I had the house cleaned in advance, and together with Winnie, we got some furniture ready. Now you just need to move your things over from the hotel, and you can settle in right away.”
Amelia took a deep breath, unsure how to properly thank them. In her previous life, she hadn’t stayed in touch with them much, rarely gathering with friends because of family obligations.
Even after spending so much time with only her family, her friends were still here waiting for her. Her eyes stung a little. The depth of their support touched the softest part of her heart in a way she couldn’t put into
words.

Leaning against the doorframe, Jasper kept one hand in his pocket and smiled at her. “Save the thanks. I don’t like hearing it. We’re close enough now that saying formal things feels awkward.”
Amelia chuckled.
“Come on, let’s move your things.”
After Amelia finished unpacking, Jasper left.
While tidying up, she realized the brooch her grandmother had left behind was still in Harbor Villa. She frowned and looked up at the clock, which read ten at night.
At this hour, Christopher usually hadn’t returned home yet.
No matter whether he was there, she had to retrieve her grandmother’s keepsake.
Close to eleven, Amelia arrived at Harbor Villa.
The house was dark, which meant everyone was probably asleep.
She tried to unlock the door with her fingerprint, but the system rejected it.
Amelia paused.
It made sense. After all, she had already left, and deleting her access was understandable.
She went around to the side door and used the key to let herself in. She was only going to grab what she needed
and leave.
Making her way to the master bedroom, Amelia pushed the door open and switched on the light.
“Chris, don’t turn on the light, it’s blinding.”
Her heart skipped a beat as she saw Nicole, half-asleep, shielding her eyes from the glare.
