Luke watched Amelia turn back around and sneered. “What? Not willing to admit it?”
Amelia almost laughed. She had given him too much face before, and now he thought he could say whatever he wanted.
“Before you throw accusations, maybe figure out who’s really crossing the line,” she said coldly. “Fine, you claim I’m with Jasper, that we’re all lovey-dovey. Then tell me, who’s making that claim, and where’s the proof?
Luke gave a dismissive snort. “Anyone with eyes can see the way you two act. Do I really need evidence?”
“So in other words, you don’t have any.”
His expression darkened. “A woman as shameless as you is capable of anything.”
Amelia let out a sharp laugh.
“How many people have you smeared with that same tactic?”
She leaned in slightly, her voice like ice.
“I used to think you were at least half-decent. The CEO of Cloudway Technologies, but you talk without thinking? Judging people through your own prejudices-is that your idea of class? Jasper is a public servant at Institute 511. If you throw dirt at him and it comes to light, are you prepared to take responsibility?”
Luke’s face darkened even further as he listened. Amelia really had a sharp tongue now.
Before, Amelia had bent over backwards to please Christopher, showing courtesy and respect to everyone around him and never causing any conflict.
Now, things were different. Amelia no longer had to swallow her pride.
Nicole finally stepped in and said, “Alright, come on. We’re all friends here. Let’s not fight.”
Amelia turned her cold gaze toward Nicole. “You’re no different from him. What makes you think you’re any better?”
Jasper stood quietly to the side, watching her. Admiration flickered in his eyes.
This was the woman he knew, sharp and unyielding-not the timid girl she used to be.
“W-What…” Nicole faltered. “Did I provoke you? Or is it just that you can’t stand me being close with Chris?”
Christopher’s eyes slid to Amelia, his voice carrying a chill. “You’ve been out on your own for a while, and all you’ve gained is a worse temper. Who spoiled you like this?”
Luke muttered, “Exactly! She messes up, then lashes out at everyone else. Who the hell provoked her?”
Amelia let out a biting laugh. “Your so-called buddy accused your wife of being in love with another man, and you still side with him. If you like being made a fool of so much, don’t expect me to stop it.”
Christopher narrowed his eyes, his whole presence radiating a heavy, oppressive chill.

Nicole hurried to smooth things over. “It was just a joke between friends! Are you really taking it that seriously? Mia, we’ve always teased each other like this. Don’t you think you’re overreacting?”
Amelia opened her mouth to fire back, but Jasper caught her arm. He leaned close, his voice low in her eat.
“Mr. Caldwell wants to see you.”
Amelia paused only a second before making her choice.
“Let’s go.”
She knew perfectly well what mattered and what didn’t.
When it came to a circle she was already leaving behind, there was no point wasting energy defending herself. Right or wrong didn’t matter anymore. In their eyes, no matter what she did, she would never be the good one.
Luke snorted coldly. “She backed off because she knew she was guilty. I thought she had more bite than that.”
Meanwhile, Amelia walked out with Jasper.
“That was quite a flare-up just now,” Jasper said, studying her. “You used to stay calm no matter what they threw at you.”
Amelia frowned. She could have kept her composure and brushed off their taunts without letting them rattle her.
But this time, they had dragged in the people around her. They had even insulted Jasper.
“They shouldn’t involve the people close to me. I don’t want you getting caught in the crossfire because of me.”
Her tone was deadly serious.
