Chapter 49
Jasper smiled faintly. “Mia, they’re spreading rumors about me, not burting me. Why waste somewhere fighting them?”
Amelia slowed her steps and turned to look at him.
He met her gaze with an easy smile, “Friends don’t care about that kind of thing, so there’s no need to bett heads with them. Don’t waste your emotions or your time. Save your energy for something that actually matters.
Amelia understood. What mattered most now was ending her marriage quickly. Otherwise, people would never stop talking,
She drew in a deep breath and cut straight to the point. “Why does Mr. Caldwell want to see me?”
“I arranged it,” Jasper said. “Professor Hale spoke up for you, too. You’re a rare talent in this field. Now that you’re back, you should have every resource at your disposal. We can’t let your talent go to waste.”
Amelia followed Jasper to the reception hall, which was already full of people. The moment she stepped inside, heads turned.
Her striking looks and cool, capable air made her stand out no matter where she went. In research circles, appearances were often overlooked, but Amelia drew attention without trying,
Alfred was just about to speak when another stir rippled through the room.
At the entrance, Nicole walked in arm-in-arm with Christopher. The two of them looked every bit the perfect pair, handsome and elegant together.
“Mr. Zephyr, you’re here.”
Edmund Caldwell’s gaze shifted toward Christopher.
Amelia froze and turned, just in time to see Christopher walk in with Nicole on his arm. His gaze slid right past her, as if she weren’t even there.
“Yes.” Christopher gave Edmund a faint smile. “Allow me to introduce Nicole Randall. She holds dual PhDs in aerospace engineering and financial technology. She’s already developed her own aircraft, which debuted at last month’s airshow. Every major company in the industry is fighting to recruit her.” (1)
Dual doctorates carried serious weight. It meant Nicole could do more than research. She could drive growth, secure funding, and even sustain projects on her own without relying on grants.
And that was without mentioning her impressive achievements. Nicole wasn’t just promising, she was already a prize the industry was eager to claim. All she needed now was more experience.
Edmund smiled warmly. “I’ve heard about you. Having talent like yours is a point of pride for the country.”
In such a formal setting, Nicole carried herself with a touch more seriousness. She smiled at Edmund. “You flatter me, Mr. Caldwell. We, the younger folk, still have much to learn from the generations before us.”
Amelia lowered her gaze, her expression composed as she stayed where she was.

Jasper frowned as he watched her. Amelia gave him a faint smile and shook her head, signaling that she was fine.
But in that moment, she understood more clearly than ever just how deeply Christopher cared for Nicole. Even at an occasion like this, he brought her along and personally introduced her to the academicians.
In her past life, she had never paid attention to their careers. All her energy had gone into their home. Now, she finally saw the truth. Christopher had been paving the way for Nicole’s rise all along.
And Amelia, in Zephyr Group, had always been nothing more than a figurehead. Even when she contributed to projects or her work excelled, it was overlooked. She would never be seen as anything more than his assistant.
Jasper’s frown deepened.
At that moment, Alfred rose and addressed Christopher. “Mr. Zephyr, let’s go to the conference room to finalize the lecture details.”
Christopher nodded lightly. “Alright.”
Amelia’s hand curled into a tight fist. Now, she understood. Christopher was here strictly for business. Yet even for such a brief appearance, he had gone out of his way to bring Nicole, to personally clear the path for her future.
