Chapter 52
Christopher’s words were concise and commanding, carrying the unmistakable authority of someone used to being in control.
In the past, Amelia would have rushed to him, happy to spend even a single second by his side.
But those days were gone. The old Amelia was dead.
Amelia replied, “You can say what you need to say from here.”
She had always obeyed before, treating Christopher’s words like royal commands. Lately, though, she had become increasingly defiant.
Christopher’s frown deepened, and he repeated, “Come over.”
“Beep, beep, beep-”
Amelia hung up without hesitation.
A short distance away, Christopher’s expression darkened further. It was only natural to feel frustrated when the obedient, devoted wife suddenly went rogue.
The next second, Amelia looked away.
Christopher stared at his phone screen, then suddenly smiled, as if something had clicked.
After Edmund and Alfred finished their lectures, it was Christopher’s turn to take the stage. He talked about analyzing industry trends and entrepreneurial strategy.
There was no denying that Christopher was impressive. In his field, he was unmatched. He could lead Zephyr Group step by step to heights that others saw as untouchable, and even those peaks were not the limit for him.
He was a man of immense ambition.
At some point, Nicole had slipped into the seat beside Amelia.
“Chris is impressive, isn’t he?” Nicole smiled at her. “If I had a husband that talented, I’d probably be at home doing exactly what you’re doing-just lying around.”
There was a scent about Nicole that felt eerily familiar to Amelia.
It was the same subtle fragrance she had once loved and longed for most, the scent that had belonged solely to Christopher.
Yet now, she smelled it on Nicole.
Amelia stood and gave Nicole a sharp, mocking smile. “Well, looks like your dream’s coming true. Better figure out how to lie comfortably.”
Her sarcasm was unmistakable.
Nicole caught the hidden meaning. “What do you mean by that? I really do see Chris as just a close friend.”
Amelia looked down at Nicole with quiet disdain. “You take after your mother perfectly.”
Both had thrived as someone else’s mistress, yet acted as if they were completely innocent.
Nicole’s mother, Tania Cooper, was the mistress of Amelia’s father. Tania had barged into the Sinclair household,

causing an uproar. Amelia’s father Jonathan refused to divorce her mother, Claire, while still clinging to the other
woman.
Amelia had no desire to waste words on Nicole. It was pointless.
Nicole stiffened. “How can you think of me like that?”
Amelia turned to leave.
Suddenly, she ran straight into a broad, solid embrace.
At first, the familiar scent hit her like a jolt, winding its way into her chest. It was as if an invisible hand had clenched her heart, sending a sharp ache through her.
But soon, her reason took control.
She had decided not to love Christopher anymore.
However, her body reacted instinctively. Amelia drew a deep breath, and once she realized what was happening, she pushed him away immediately.
When she looked up, her eyes met Christopher’s dark, intense, and commanding gaze.
He looked down at her. “Apologize to Nicole.”
Nicole quickly said, “Forget it, Chris! I’m easygoing, and I don’t hold grudges over small things. No need to make Mia feel awkward. Besides, considering our situation, I have no reason to quarrel with her. I’ve been taking up too much of your time, not giving you a chance to spend it with her, so of course she’d be a little upset.”
She laughed freely, with a confident, easy charm.
“Women are like that, and I understand them. They’re always the same.”
Amelia scoffed quietly and walked away.
She didn’t let the encounter linger in her mind. She still had the lab and the control center to visit.
It had been a long time since she had been to Institute 511, and she was eager to see how much it had changed over
the years.
