Chapter 53

After the morning lectures, it was time for lunch. The visitors touring the 511 Institute joined the staff in the cafeteria.

Jasper walked with Amelia toward the dining area.

“Honestly, even after all these years, not much has changed here,” he said.

Amelia smiled. “That’s true.”

The environment remained familiar, but the people had changed drastically.

Amelia rubbed her temples, feeling a bit dizzy. Lately, she had been too busy to rest properly, even skipping meals. Her body was starting to protest.

Jasper noticed her discomfort and said, “Go sit down. I’ll get your food.”

Amelia hesitated, not wanting to trouble him. “No, I’ll do it myself.”

Jasper frowned. “If you’re not feeling well, I can take you to the lounge to rest. You don’t have to stay for the afternoon events.”

He knew how relentlessly Amelia had been pushing herself-preparing for her new role, refining her professional skills, and caring for Evelyn.

Attending the 511 Institute’s open day wasn’t mandatory, as she would eventually return anyway. Yet she insisted on coming, drawn by the lectures and the chance to be present in person. Whenever she did something, she threw herself into it fully and without compromise.

“I’m fine,” she said.

As Amelia joined the lunch line and picked up her tray, a sudden darkness clouded her vision. Her body lurched backward, and her heart skipped a beat. Just as she felt herself about to fall, a pair of strong hands caught her firmly.

“Are you okay?” Jasper’s brow was furrowed tight, his entire expression radiating concern.

“I’m just a little low on sugar, I’m fine. I just need a moment to rest.”

She looked up, intending to move to a nearby seat, and her eyes unexpectedly met Christopher’s.

Nicole and Luke were nearby as well.

Amelia quickly turned away, pretending not to see him.

Christopher’s expression remained unchanged.

“Time and again, she’s been so close to other men right in front of you,” Luke mused, a hint of amusement in his voice. “Once or twice might be a coincidence, but so many times? That’s no accident. Does she think that if she can’t win your heart by pursuing you relentlessly, she can provoke you by getting close to other men?”

Christopher stayed indifferent, as if he couldn’t care less. “Just eat.”

Originally, Amelia hadn’t planned to go to the hospital. It was just low blood sugar, something hardly worth making a fuss.

She had dealt with this for years. In the Zephyr household, she had been busy taking care of the children, managing the home, and supporting Christopher, helping him handle projects and prepare bids.

Every day was a whirlwind of responsibilities. She looked after everyone else, always giving, but she never cared for herself.

Jasper had been worried, and he insisted she get checked. The results indicated low blood sugar and anemia. 1

Because of her condition, her meeting with Cyrus was postponed for a day. In her current state, it wouldn’t have been polite to meet anyone.

Amelia didn’t dwell on the low blood sugar. A little rest would fix it.

“If your body is already reacting like this, you really need to rest and take care of yourself,” Jasper said seriously.

Amelia chuckled. “The doctor said I’m fine.”

No matter how exhausting her own career got, it would never be harder than being Christopher’s wife.

“I’ll still report to the company tomorrow. I need to meet the new colleagues,” she added.

Jasper knew he couldn’t persuade her otherwise.

He only warned, “Take it easy. If you collapse, there’s no one to look after Evie.”
