The next morning, Amelia got up early to take Evelyn to school.

Since the two children attended the same school, encounters were inevitable.

Nathan jumped out of the Maybach, holding a remote-controlled airplane, much larger than the one he had at the hospital before.

It was a new toy that Nicole had made for him, and it was even cooler than the last one. This one was a fighter jet, capable of launching projectiles. 1

The previous toy plane had already made the kids in kindergarten incredibly jealous.

When Nathan spotted Evelyn and Amelia, he grinned proudly. “You two have never seen anything like this, have you?”

Amelia didn’t respond. A toy like that didn’t impress her.

She glanced at her watch, knowing she was running late for her Nova Nine Technologies check-in.

“Evie, stay away from Nathan, especially when he’s playing with that plane,” she warned.

Amelia could tell at a glance that this plane could really launch something. As a toy, its power might not be deadly, but it could still pose a danger to a child. She guessed Nicole had made it for Nathan, though she had no idea how strong the launch was or whether it could be adjusted.

Evelyn didn’t fully understand why Amelia was giving the warning, but she obediently nodded.

“Okay, Mommy.”

The morning rush meant Amelia had left an hour earlier than usual, but she still got stuck in traffic. She arrived at Nova Nine Technologies with barely a minute to spare.

After parking, she grabbed a coffee from the center console and headed upstairs. She hurried along, and so did the person coming toward her.

Amelia stepped aside to avoid a collision, but it seemed the other person was trying to do the same. In a sudden jolt, they bumped into each other, and her coffee spilled all over the person.

“Ow-hey there, little lady, you’re a little careless-” Nicole looked up and froze, spotting Amelia. “Mia?”

Amelia was surprised. She hadn’t expected to run into Nicole here. Nova Nine Technologies had already rejected her. Why was Nicole showing up at this time?

Amelia’s eyes landed on Nicole’s clothes, soaked in coffee.

They looked familiar.

Yes, they were familiar to her.

If she wasn’t mistaken, Nicole was wearing her clothes.

Amelia had left many of her clothes behind. Most of them were gifts Christopher had bought without much thought, and they didn’t match her style at all. At the time, she had been thrilled to receive them. She had treasured them with all her heart, inspecting them almost every day.

Even though many of them didn’t fit quite right, she still loved them.

Amelia sneered inwardly. Looking back now, it was clear. These clothes weren’t just thoughtlessly bought for her -they weren’t for her at all.

Christopher had clearly bought them to fit Nicole’s size and style.

Seeing Amelia staring at the clothes, Nicole smiled.

“After tutoring Nate yesterday, it got too late to go home, so I stayed over. When I got ready this morning, I didn’t bring any clothes, so I just wore yours. We’re both women, so you don’t mind, right? But I have to say, these clothes fit really well. Mia, if you have this style, why have I never seen you wear it?”

Amelia understood everything now.

Nicole had bumped into her on purpose. She had come deliberately to assert her territory, to show off herself in these clothes. Everything about it had been staged to look casual and unintentional.

Amelia pursed her lips. “Don’t call me that again. It might not bother you, but it bothers me.”

With that, she strode into the elevator.

“You’re a little late,” Jasper said, noticing some stains on her clothes. “Did you spill coffee again?”

“Someone was trying to bump into me. Couldn’t avoid it,” Amelia said. “I’m going to wash my hands.”
