Reborn Without You (Amelia and Christopher) novel Chapter 56

Chapter 56

Jasper introduced Amelia to the core team at Nova Nine Technologies.

This was the backbone of the company. In a team like this, everyone valued competence above all else. No one could afford to let someone incompetent slip in and cause chaos.

Amelia understood this perfectly.

She took a deep breath. “Don’t worry. I won’t hold anyone back. If I ever slow down the team, I’ll resign on my own.”

No one responded. They clearly didn’t take her words seriously.

Someone who got in through connections? How could they possibly quit? A college graduate, no matter how talented, would inevitably slow things down. Even if she were a genius, how far could a genius with just a bachelor’s degree really go?

As everyone returned to their workstations, it was clear they weren’t welcoming of Amelia’s presence.

Jasper pressed his lips together slightly. “Feeling the pressure?”

“Not really,” Amelia said with a small smile. “True talent doesn’t fear a test. If I can’t keep up, I won’t drag you down. I’ll leave on my own.”

Jasper smirked. “Humble as always, Mia. No one can match you.”

He knew perfectly well that she wasn’t going to hold anyone back. Her skills were still at their peak, rivaling anyone in the company, including himself.

Amelia rolled her eyes. “Jasper, blind trust is its own kind of superstition.”

Jasper chuckled. “Then take me with you, oh wise one, and show me the way.”

Amelia was speechless at his response.

By the end of the day, Amelia had familiarized herself with the team’s workflow and the people she would be working with.

It seemed like everyone was deliberately avoiding her. Almost no one assigned her any tasks, and she was left isolated and ignored.

Surface-level acceptance didn’t mean she was truly welcome. She needed a real opportunity to prove herself.

Near the end of the workday, Amelia’s phone rang. It was the kindergarten teacher, Christine.

“Mrs. Zephyr, Nathan has been acting out at school, bullying the other kids. He even used his toy plane to hurt several of them, and now the parents are demanding answers.”

Amelia drew a deep breath. “Is Evelyn okay?”

“She’s been keeping her distance and staying out of it. She’s fine.”

Amelia finally relaxed. “In situations like this, you need to go to Nathan’s parents.”

“Aren’t you his mother?”

“I’m not,” Amelia replied calmly, her voice flat.

Before Christine could respond, she noticed Evelyn and Nathan starting to bicker. She immediately set the phone down and rushed over to intervene.

“Hey, Nathan! Don’t bully Evelyn!”

Amelia listened to the chaos on the other end, then called out for the teacher, but all she got was noise and no

response.

She had seen the toy plane Nathan had brought today. She noted that almost every part of it was made from top- quality materials, and she couldn’t help but wonder if the bullets might actually do some damage.

She took a deep breath, still feeling uneasy.

After sending Jasper a quick message to request leave, she stood up and headed out immediately.

Her colleagues in the office stared as she left.

Josephine sneered. “She’s late this morning, and now she’s leaving early. She really thinks she’s someone important.”

Someone else chimed in. “Yeah. We were going to give her a chance. No advanced degree is one thing, but she doesn’t even have the basic work ethic.”

“I don’t understand why Mr. Langley would hire someone like her. Is she here just to make things harder for the rest of us?”

“Enough. Focus on your own work and do your part.”

Josephine snorted. “People like us, with no power or connections, can only focus on doing our jobs properly. Not

everyone

has a safety net. Some people act like the company is their family estate, coming and going as they

please.”

Meanwhile, Amelia hurried down the stairs and dialed Christopher’s number.

“Mr. Zephyr, you need to go to the kindergarten and handle the mess your son caused.”
