Chapter 65
Amelia turned to Christopher. “Open the door.”
“If you want to stay out, I won’t stop you. But Evie is coming home with me tonight,” Christopher calmly replied.
“I don’t want to,” Evelyn spoke up, her small voice firm. “I’m not going with you. I’m going with Mommy.”
Christopher frowned.
“Uncle Chris, you treat Mommy so badly. She doesn’t want to go to the dinner, and she didn’t want to get in the car just now. Yesterday at kindergarten, Mommy got hurt too, and you didn’t even care.”
These past few days, Evelyn had seen everything.
Before, she had just thought Christopher was busy with work, but at least he came home every day. Now, all she felt was that he didn’t love Amelia or her. Even if she won first place in the kindergarten math competition, he wouldn’t praise her. That meant no matter how good she was, he would never like her.
Christopher’s gaze finally fell on Amelia’s bandaged wrist, his dark eyes unreadable. Amelia felt the weight of that stare cut through her, and she quickly withdrew her hand.
Evelyn pressed her lips together. “You’re always bullying Mommy. You should apologize to her, too.”
She couldn’t bear to watch Amelia suffer in silence any longer.
Christopher’s expression darkened as he looked at Amelia. “Did you teach her this? Are you using a child to demand justice for yourself?”
Amelia let out a wry, bitter smile.
Even now, Christopher still thought she and Evelyn were throwing a tantrum.
Of course. If he didn’t care about Amelia, why would he care about her feelings?
She filed for a divorce and moved out, yet he still thought she was only throwing a tantrum.
How completely indifferent did he have to be to see it that way?
Amelia didn’t bother arguing. She didn’t want to spend another second in the car, and she certainly didn’t want to spend more time with him.
She used to look forward to being alone with him, even more so to sitting in the passenger seat. Now that she was sitting here, all she felt was a sense of torment and irony.
Amelia stayed silent, and Christopher showed no intention of forcing them to stay. He unlocked the car door without a word.
Amelia held Eyelyn’s hand and stepped out, but Christopher suddenly spoke calmly from behind them.
“Evie’s last name is Zephyr. She will always be a daughter of the Zephyr family.”
Evelyn tightened her grip on Amelia’s hand. Her father’s presence was intimidating, suffocating even.
At that moment, she should have been happy. At least Christopher acknowledged that she was his daughter.
Evelyn turned to him, about to say something, but the Maybach had already started and roared past her.

Chapter 65
After Amelia got into the car with Evelyn, the little girl spoke up.
“Mommy, can I take your last name?”

Amelia ruffled her hair gently and said, “Of course. But Evie, a name is just a label. It doesn’t mean much on its own. If you really want to change it, then once Mommy and Daddy finalize the divorce, I’ll make it happen.”
She respected her daughter’s wishes.
“I want to change it,” Evelyn said with a small smile.
Yet deep down, she felt an inexplicable twinge of loneliness.
Amelia pulled her into a hug, stroking her hair as they walked. She knew Evelyn was thoughtful and mature for her age, but no child should have to go without a father’s love.
Christopher had never given Evelyn that.
Ever since she was little, Evelyn had envied other children’s fathers. She was always waiting for her own father to look at her, even to be allowed to call him “Daddy” just once.
But to this day, Christopher had never offered it, so Evelyn had chosen not to want him at all.
Amelia’s heart ached for how responsible and aware Evelyn was. She also felt guilty for the ways she had fallen short.
The fatherly love Evelyn had lost, Amelia would make up for with all the love she could give.
