Chapter 70
Gift?
Amelia felt nothing but irony.

In her last life, she had painstakingly prepared a painting of the Endless Rivers and Mountains, a prized piece from her mother’s private collection. Richard had dismissed it outright, even openly questioning its authenticity.
Now, she would rather burn it than present it as a gift to Richard.
Nicole had given Richard an extravagant gift. Anyone following her would inevitably be outshone.
Lucia was clearly trying to make things difficult, as if she couldn’t wait to throw Amelia out on the spot.
Amelia’s gaze was cool as she looked at Lucia. “It’s Grandpa’s birthday. Why are we hounding others for presents?

Lucia’s expression flickered. “As his granddaughter-in-law, shouldn’t you be giving one?”
Amelia smiled faintly, calm and composed. “So now you remember I’m his granddaughter-in-law? Anyone who didn’t know might’ve thought otherwise.”
Lucia narrowed her eyes but managed to reply with practiced ease. She smiled lightly. “If you didn’t prepare one, that’s fine. I won’t say a word. Dad doesn’t need your gift, anyway.”
Stephanie chimed in with a soft laugh. “Yeah, Mia. If you didn’t prepare one, just admit it gracefully.”
Amelia’s gaze drifted deliberately to Christopher. His expression remained calm as he lowered his gaze to sip his tea, completely unfazed by the way she was being singled out.
Perhaps if she died here today, he wouldn’t even care.
No, he truly didn’t care. In Amelia’s last life, both she and Evelyn had died, and he hadn’t so much as glanced their
way.
“Christopher and I are husband and wife. Naturally, the gift we give is the same one, since we prepared it together, “Amelia said.
No matter what she gave, it would be looked down on. She didn’t want to waste the money or effort on something meaningless.
Now, she was smarter. Whatever Christopher gave, she gave the same. He couldn’t deny it, not unless he publicly declared they weren’t married.
In which case, she would have pulled out the divorce papers and made him sign them on the spot.
Christopher clearly had no intention of upsetting Richard at his birthday banquet.
So, he nodded calmly and instructed someone to bring the gift forward. “It’s a pastel openwork heart-shaped vase. We had it specially secured for you, Grandpa.”
Once Christopher had acknowledged it, no one dared challenge Amelia further.
Richard beamed. “This is excellent. Both you and Nicole clearly put thought into it.”
He didn’t acknowledge Amelia at all.

Lucia’s expression tightened. She could hardly swallow her frustration, being so effortlessly bypassed.
Luke scoffed, full of disdain. “You really know how to ride coattails.”
At that moment, someone approached, holding a glass of wine, and stopped before Nicole and Christopher. He first toasted Grandpa, then turned to Christopher and Nicole.
“Mr. Zephyr, Mrs. Zephyr, I’ve long heard of your perfect match, and seeing you together today only confirms it. Truly, you are made for each other. I raise a glass to you.”
Christopher was a business tycoon, always the center of attention wherever he went. Now Nicole was a rising star in the aerospace industry, a prodigy in her own right. She was equally admired and sought after.
Nicole smiled gracefully. “You’re too kind, but I’m not Mrs. Zephyr.”
Hooking her arm through Christopher’s, she radiated ease and confidence. “Chris and I are just good friends. Mrs. Zephyr is the lady sitting over there.”
Her gaze shifted toward Amelia, who sat at the lower table.
All eyes turned to Amelia, some filled with pity, others with subtle disdain.
Everyone present was sharp, and they knew the truth.
Christopher’s heart belonged elsewhere.
Those who were favored acted with complete confidence. Even without a title, they still shone brilliantly.
Amelia met the stares with complete calm, as she had long built walls around herself. She was leaving Christopher, and Nicole knew it.
Nicole pretended to be generous, like she was handing over her spot as Christopher’s wife. On the surface, it looked like goodwill. In reality, it was meant to watch Amelia be scorned by everyone.
That was the point of Christopher calling her here, Amelia realized. He wanted her to know her place and to stop competing with Nicole at every turn.
If that was the case, why was he dragging out their divorce?
Nicole nudged Nathan gently. “Weren’t we practicing our performance together? Let’s show them what we’ve got.
