Chapter 76
Christopher glanced at Amelia, his expression calm, almost amused. He probably thought pretending in front of her was just as nauseating.
Amelia didn’t care what he thought. She stood up and took Evelyn’s hand, then walked straight out. She had already called a car ahead of time, unwilling to lower herself to leave in the same one as Christopher.
Nathan stared after them, utterly confused. “Why’s Mommy so worked up? Who upset her?”
Christopher quietly turned away and said nothing.
“Daddy, can I ask Ms. Nikki to come over after school today to help with homework? I want to learn the stuff Evie did yesterday, too.”
Christopher slowly set down his napkin. “You can call her and see if she has time.”
After dropping Evelyn off at kindergarten, Amelia called Cyrus to check on the appeal process.
His voice on the other end was calm and steady. “It’s already submitted for review, and you’ll get a notice once the case is filed. You can also check the process on the official website.”
Hearing that, a huge weight lifted from Amelia’s chest. Even if the appeal process was a bit tedious, she didn’t mind the trouble as long as the outcome was good.
She thanked Cyrus. Realizing they hadn’t been discussed last time, and he hadn’t brought them up either, she confirmed the legal fees.
A lawyer of his caliber was in high demand, and his rates were usually sky-high.
He gave Amelia a so-called “friends’ price” -a hundred thousand dollars, payable after the case concluded.
Amelia exhaled slowly, taking it all in.
After moving out of Harbor Villa, Christopher hadn’t sent her any money. Even if he had, she wouldn’t have used it. Most of the savings she had left went to her mother to help her get by, leaving only fifty thousand dollars for rent and living expenses. Life was far tighter than before. 1
Now, with the hefty lawyer fees looming, she felt a twinge of unease
“What the hell! That wretched woman!”
Amelia had just arrived at Nova Nine Technologies when she heard Winona muttering angrily.
She set her bag down at her desk and looked at Winona. “First thing in the morning, and already mad at someone? Who this time?”
Winona immediately held out her phone when she saw Amelia. “Look, isn’t this the brooch your grandmother gave you?”
Amelia froze.
She took the phone and looked. It was a post from Nicole’s social feed.

tuke bad even commented, (Chris really loves you. He actually gave this to you.]
Aurelia’s chest tightened, and her grip on the phone unconsciously went a little firmer.
She couldn’t believe it. Zooming in for a closer look, she confirmed every detail. This was undeniably the very brooch her grandmother had left behind
In that moment, it was as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over her from head to toe. Her blood seemed to freere, and her face went several shades paler.
So this was what Christopher had promised her, and then said that it had mysteriously gone missing? He had even used it as an excuse to call her back to the Zephyr family banquet, just to humiliate her.
He was truly cold-blooded. Did he find it entertaining to toy with her?
And she had actually thought Christopher was a man of his word. What exactly had she been hoping and compromising for all this time?
Winona noticed the storm crossing Amelia’s face and frowned.
“Mia, are you okay?”
Amelia took a deep breath, trying to dispel the tight knot of anger in her chest. She handed the phone back to Wincura. “I’m fine.”
“Fine? That wrenched woman is clearly declaring war on you!” Winona said. “You should call him and get some
answers.
Of course, Amelia wasn’t about to let this go quietly.
She pulled out her phone, found Christopher’s number, and walked down the hallway to make the call.
The phone rang once, then was cut off almost immediately.
