Chapter 79
Nicole froze at Christopher’s actions, then she turned and saw Amelia standing there in the living room.
Seeing her “husband” so intimately close with another woman, Amelia had no idea what to make of her own feelings. Her chest felt tight, and her throat constricted. She wanted to say something, but the words wouldn’t
come.
She took a deep breath.
No matter what they were doing, it had nothing to do with her anymore.
Even as Nicole saw Amelia, she didn’t let go of Christopher’s hand. A smile spread naturally across her face.
“Oh! You’re home, Mia. Why don’t you go start the bathwater? I’ll wipe Chris down so he can sleep better.”
Amelia thought she must have misheard. Was she being told to fill the bath while Nicole wiped down Christopher?
She finally understood what it meant to be so favored that one could act without fear.
Nicole could wash someone else’s husband in front of his wife because Christopher had given her that much authority.
Amelia couldn’t help but wonder how many times this had already happened when she wasn’t around.
She laughed mockingly and said, “Won’t bother you, then.”
No sooner had the words left her mouth than Nicole’s phone rang. She frowned at the caller ID.
Once she confirmed Christopher was steady, she turned to Amelia. “Mia, keep an eye on him for me.”
With that, Nicole walked off to answer the call.
Amelia scoffed, rolled her eyes, and didn’t bother with him, striding straight toward the door.
Christopher seemed barely conscious, so there was no point in asking anything today. It would only get in the way of their “fun”, and Amelia didn’t want to waste any more time here.
She had just taken a step when she saw him stagger toward her, and his heavy body suddenly pressed against hers. The sharp scent of alcohol hit her instantly, mixed with the lingering perfume from Nicole.
Amelia’s brow furrowed as she tried to push him away, but he was far too heavy.
Christopher held on tight, refusing to let go. His voice was rough and muffled, laced with warmth. “Don’t move. I just want to hold you a moment… I feel awful.”
His words were soft, seductive, intimate.
Amelia’s body stiffened slightly. He had mistaken her for Nicole again. There was no way he was talking to her. Naturally, he was speaking to whoever had stayed with him last night.
Clenching her jaw, she pushed against him. “Christopher, look at me. Really look at me.”
Her cold, measured voice seemed to pierce through his fog. He loosened his grip, and when his eyes met hers, his brow furrowed slightly.
Then, he asked sharply, “What are you doing here?”
His tone sounded disappointed, as if he hadn’t seen the person he wanted to see.

Amelia’s gaze was icy as she stared at Christopher, her voice sharp with accusation. “Where’s my brooch?”
The man furrowed his brow, clearly annoyed. “I’m still looking for it.”
Amelia snorted, holding up the screenshot from Nicole’s post. “I already found it for you. You think it’s fun to toy with me, don’t you?”
His eyes lingered on the phone screen for a moment. Then, after a few seconds, he looked away calmly and sank into the sofa, rubbing his forehead. “I’ll give it to you tomorrow.”
His voice sounded casual, unconcerned, with no explanation for how the brooch had ended up in Nicole’s hands.
He didn’t want to explain, and Amelia didn’t want to ask. The brooch was already with Nicole. By all appearances, he had given it to her himself. Otherwise, why would she post it on her social feed like that?
Even now, he was still brushing Amelia off with excuses that didn’t hold up.
Amelia’s lips curled into a bitter, mocking smile. She pocketed her phone and coldly said, “If I don’t get it tomorrow, I’ll come after you myself.” 1
