Chapter 86
Clark’s gaze burned with such contempt that Amelia couldn’t ignore it.
During her time at Zephyr Group, these people had never once respected her.
Amelia didn’t react to his attitude or his gaze.
Seeing her act as if she didn’t know him, Clark rolled his eyes. He didn’t understand what she was trying to prove.
After all, she only had a pretty face and nothing else.
Inside the meeting room, Amelia and Jasper waited.
At that moment, Nicole pushed the door open.
Amelia paused for a moment at the sight of her.
“Mia?” Nicole said, not the least bit surprised. “I was wondering on my way over whether you’d come with Mr. Langley. I didn’t expect you actually would.”
She sat down and turned to Jasper, her smile polite but faint.
“Hello, Mr. Langley. Normally, the head of our tech team would handle this meeting. But that person is on a business trip today, so I’ll be representing all business matters in their place.”
Jasper looked at her. “You’re working at Zephyr Group now?”
“Not exactly,” Nicole replied. “But Chris and I grew up together. What belongs to him is mine too. I’m capable of handling this.”
Amelia said nothing, her expression calm.
Back when she had worked at the company, Christopher had never allowed her near core projects, especially in the
tech team.
And now, without even officially joining the company, Nicole could represent the entire Zephyr Group in negotiations.
She was acting exactly like the boss’s wife.
Nicole’s approach was all business, professional, and precise.
In the end, they successfully negotiated a contract renewal, though the actual signing would have to happen later, and some terms still needed ironing out.
Nicole stood and shook Jasper’s hand.
“Mr. Langley, I’ve always thought Nova Nine was an excellent company, so I have high hopes for your team. I handle everything strictly as business.” Nicole’s gaze flicked briefly to Amelia, the unspoken meaning clear. “I hope you’ll do the same, Mr. Langley.”
She knew Jasper had rejected her once because of Amelia. And now, here they were, Nova Nine Technologies practically coming to her.
By the time the meeting ended, it was already lunchtime.
Christopher stepped out of the conference room and asked Nigel to make reservations at a restaurant.

When Amelia and Jasper emerged, they ran into Christopher.
He walked straight past Amelia, smiling as he shook Jasper’s hand. “All done with the meeting?”
Jasper returned the polite gestures. “Shall we grab lunch together? We can discuss the next steps in our collaboration as well.”
Christopher said, “I have personal matters today, so it’s not convenient. Let’s schedule another time.”
As soon as he finished, he glanced at Clark. “See Mr. Langley out afterward.”
Then he looked at Nicole. “Shall we go?”
Amelia understood immediately.
While Nicole had been abroad, they rarely had time alone together. Now that she was back, Christopher naturally wanted to cling to her every moment, squeezing in dates and nurturing their relationship whenever he could.
Nicole was aware that Christopher and Amelia’s marriage was a secret within the company. She gave Amelia a sympathetic glance as she passed and murmured, “If this weren’t at work, I’d invite you along.” 1
To Amelia, it felt like an open, shameless taunt.
Even as the legal wife, she wasn’t as open and brazen as Nicole.
So what if she was the one married to Christopher?
From the moment Christopher appeared to when he left with Nicole, he didn’t spare Amelia a single glance.
Clark clicked his tongue quietly, eyes flicking toward Amelia as if she were a clown.
With the real childhood sweetheart sitting right there, Amelia-who used to daydream about climbing into Christopher’s bed-was naturally the clown in comparison.
Jasper frowned. He opened his mouth to say something, but Amelia stopped him with a small tug.
