Chapter 89

In Nathan’s eyes, it was all Amelia’s fault.

If she hadn’t kept him from eating those things, he wouldn’t be allergic now.

Amelia looked at Nathan calmly, a faint, almost mocking smile tugging at her lips. There was no need to explain herself.

After raising a son for four years, this was the gratitude she got.

What an ungrateful child.

She set aside any sense of duty or obligation and simply respected his own choices.

“If you want to eat, then eat.”

She looked away and turned to leave.

In the hospital room, no one noticed her departure. No one seemed to care about her moods either.

“Daddy…” Nathan looked at Christopher with pleading eyes, trying to defend Nicole. “Don’t blame Mommy Nikki. It’s my own fault. I’m the one with a weak body, that’s why I got sick.”

Nicole frowned and comforted Nathan softly.

Then, she called Christopher to the hallway for a private conversation.

Nicole felt a twinge of guilt. Standing in the corridor, she frowned.

“Chris, I’ve been abroad for so long, and I haven’t had much chance to take care of a child, so I’m admittedly inexperienced. I didn’t know what to do. Besides, I have a rough temperament, and I’m more like a man than a woman. I rarely show a delicate side. Nate is my biological child, but I honestly didn’t know how to raise him properly.”

She reflected on herself and criticized her own shortcomings.

Christopher watched her calmly. “No one can be perfect at everything. There’s no need to blame yourself.”

Nicole looked up, then bit her lip before speaking softly, “I-I just want to do my duty as a mother. I’ve failed for so many years, and I can’t keep making the same mistakes.”

She wanted Nathan back.

Christopher adored Nathan and treated him like his own son. He clearly didn’t favor Evelyn, and it was obvious. He even forbade her from calling him “Daddy”. 1

Nicole pressed her lips together and went on.

“So when it comes to raising children, I really admire Mia. She can take care of both kids. Can you get her to teach me how to raise them? Last time, Evie won first place in the kindergarten competition. I could see that Mia did a great job teaching her. I really want to learn from her.”

After what happened with Nathan, Nicole reflected on herself and realized she barely understood him. If she wanted to raise Nathan well, she really had to learn from Amelia.

Christopher’s gaze was deep and unreadable, and he calmly said, “The children are raised by the nanny.”

The implication was clear. In his eyes, Amelia had no real ability to raise kids. Even at home, looking after the children wasn’t her strong suit. In his view, all the credit for the children’s excellence had nothing to do with her.

Amelia had returned to grab her bag, but froze when she heard Christopher’s words, a dull, heavy ache spreading through her chest.

It was laughable. Years of marriage and sacrifice meant nothing in his eyes.

Nicole looked up and saw Amelia. “Mia, you’re back? I was just talking about you with Chris.”

Amelia called Christopher to turn around, her gaze sharp and unflinching as it swept over Nicole.

His face showed no sign of regret for what he had just said. In his eyes, she was still that woman who had contributed nothing.

“From now on, just call Anna if anything happens with Nathan. There was no need for you to rush and call me last night,” Amelia said coldly.

He had even tried to use Nova Nine Technologies to threaten her.

She had never realized before how ruthless Christopher could be.

Now, she knew.

Nicole hesitated, frowning at Amelia.

“Mia, Nate may be my child, but you raised him. I won’t take that away from you. He can have two mommies. Don’t get upset with Chris over something like this. Don’t let me come between you and your marriage.”
