Chapter 90
Now, that was rich!
Did Nicole really think there was any kind of romantic feeling between Amelia and Christopher?
Amelia had to admit, she respected him. When he said the child was his friend Charles Foster’s, and that he should take responsibility for raising him properly after his friend passed, she understood.
She knew Christopher and Charles had grown up together, brothers not by blood but through everything life threw at them. Charles was an orphan, and Amelia had cared for Nathan with extra attention out of sympathy.
That was, until she discovered the child was Nicole’s.
After that, she confronted Christopher.
But Christopher, Nicole, and Charles were famously the “Iron Triangle” of Northon, bound together by a bond as close as true siblings.
Christopher had said Nathan was Charles and Nicole’s son.
At the time, she had foolishly believed him.
Now, she felt thoroughly deceived. Nathan had to be Christopher and Nicole’s son, and they had shamelessly let her raise him for a full five years.
Otherwise, why would Nathan call him Daddy while Evelyn wasn’t allowed to?
He sent Nicole abroad to polish her education and career, leaving Amelia to serve as a nanny in the Zephyr household for five long years. Truly amusing.
Now, with Nicole back, she had both the child and the career.
Last time, Amelia had been too naive to see through it. This time, she understood everything.
“Stop pretending.” Amelia’s face was cold as she looked at Nicole. Her voice was sharp, dripping with scorn. “You take advantage of me and then act innocent? It makes my skin crawl.”
Nicole stiffened, her face paling. “Mia, how can you say that? I’m grateful that you raised Nate for me.”
Christopher’s gaze was calm as he looked at Amelia. “That’s enough.””
He dismissed her years of effort as if she had no right to be upset for raising Nathan for so long, telling her to know her limits.
Amelia felt a chill run through her. She turned to him, her voice icy. “If you have the energy to worry about your little childhood sweetheart, why don’t you deal with what’s between us first? That way, she won’t end up as a messy, improper homewrecker who can’t even show her face in public.”
Christopher’s presence turned cold, his eyes dark with anger. “Amelia, Nigel is downstairs. Have him take you home.”
Amelia snorted.
He was so quick to defend Nicole, getting protective after only a few words. Now he acted as if she were an inconvenience.
Nicole looked at Amelia, wearing an expression that suggested she knew Christopher well.

“Mia, Chris is just upset right now. Don’t take it to heart. I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear what you just said. Christopher and I are buddies. There’s no way anything like that could happen.”
Amelia met Nicole’s gaze, her eyes cold, a smirk tugging at her lips. “Fine. Then I hope Mr. Zephyr finds more buddies like you, so he’s never short of company at your level.”
After saying that, Amelia ignored their reactions and strode straight into the hospital room to grab her bag.
Nathan stared at her with a strange, piercing look.
She didn’t care. She grabbed her bag and turned to leave. She didn’t want to spend another second in this place.
“So you’re not my real Mommy!” Nathan suddenly shouted, hurling a pillow at her with all his strength. “No wonder you’ve been so mean and cruel to me. You’re nothing but a wicked stepmom!”
Caught off guard, the pillow slammed into her injured wrist. The wound tore open, blood seeping out instantly. She let out a low, pained groan.
Yet, the searing pain in her wrist was nothing compared to the pain in her heart.
She looked at Nathan in disbelief.
His eyes were filled with pure venom. “I heard everything just now! You’re just a stepmom! You’ve stolen Mommy’s place for years! Get out now!”
“Nathan!” Christopher stepped in, his face dark. “Where did you learn to be so rude?”
