Chapter 92
One had to become whole on their own before truly being able to love another. Love should not come at the cost of oneself.
Sacrificing oneself for someone else was exactly how Amelia had ended up in this situation.
Her phone rang again.
Amelia scowled and immediately blocked the number.
Their divorce would be handled through the courts. He had already received the summons, yet refused to act. Did he really think she was just throwing a tantrum?
In Christopher’s mind, she was supposed to orbit the Zephyr family forever, never daring to leave. How laughable.
If he could think that, it was only because she had spent five years acting like a doormat for him.
Amelia closed her eyes and forced herself to sort through the chaos in her mind. He could ignore the divorce appeal all he wanted, but the court would push him. She didn’t need to worry.
At the latest, he would have to deal with it within fifteen days.
By then, he would know for certain whether she was serious or just throwing a tantrum. Actions would speak for themselves.
When Amelia returned home, her mood was visibly off. Yet in front of Evelyn, she wore her usual calm, gentle mask
Evelyn had an extraordinary gift for science and math. Even though money was tight, Amelia had gritted her teeth and enrolled her in an advanced math class.
After a week of classes, Evelyn’s progress was astonishing. One afternoon, Christine called, hesitating slightly before speaking.
“I can’t teach your daughter anymore,” Christine admitted.
Amelia frowned. “Is something wrong in class?”
Christine explained, “That’s not it. She’s exceptionally gifted, so she should move up to a higher-level class.”
Amelia froze for a moment, glancing down at Evelyn.
Evelyn blinked up at her with wide eyes, then asked softly, “What’s wrong, Mommy?”
After hanging up the phone, Amelia held her daughter’s small face in her hands, hardly able to believe it.
“Evie, tell me… How did you learn all that math?”
Evelyn thought for a moment. “I just followed what Ms. Smith said. Once I understood the basic logic, the calculations were easy. And I can remember all the formulas at once. It’s really simple. Did Ms. Smith call to say I wasn’t doing well?”
Evelyn didn’t yet realize how gifted she was, or how far ahead she was compared to other kids.
Amelia took a deep breath. “Nothing’s wrong. Your teacher says you’re doing really well. Mommy can sign you up

for another class. Do you want to?”
“Will another class make me better?”
“Of course.”
Evelyn smiled and was about to say yes. If she became better, maybe Christopher would finally notice her and acknowledge her as his daughter.
But then, she thought about Amelia. Making money wasn’t easy, and she had overheard the teacher mention that a single session cost almost ten thousand dollars.
It was too expensive.
Evelyn shook her head. “No, I don’t want to.”
“What’s wrong?”
“I don’t want to take the class. It costs too much.”
Amelia’s heart tightened. “Evie, your brother always got all the extra classes, and you were overlooked. Now you can choose freely, and you don’t have to worry about anything. Mommy has the money.”
Evelyn bit her lip.
“You work so hard raising me on your own. You stay up past midnight every night, and still get up to take me to school the next day. I don’t want you to work so hard, Mommy.”
