Chapter 94

Amelia got up decisively and opened her laptop, diving straight into system calculations for the new project.

Nova Nine Technologies’ latest venture involved satellites in space, but the mechanical arms lacked precision and often struggled to handle complex malfunctions. They wanted to overcome these technical hurdles and extend the satellites’ data collection capabilities.

She worked straight through the night and into the morning. After a quick shower, she caught her reflection in the mirror and realized just how haggard she looked. She put on a light layer of makeup to brighten her face, then took Evelyn to school before reaching out to Claire to meet with the investor.

The meeting was set at a private tea room, a space reserved for high-level negotiations. It was nestled halfway up the hillside, so Claire drove them there.

“Is your hand okay? It’s been a while,” Claire asked, concern in her eyes.

Amelia shook her head. “It’s nothing.”

They had arrived half an hour early, but the receptionist still hadn’t appeared. There was no way for them to go in, so all they could do was wait. The summer sun beat down relentlessly, and there was no shade at the entrance of the tea room. They couldn’t go sit in the car while waiting either, as it would have seemed impolite.

Two hours later, there was still no movement inside. Amelia’s head was dizzy from the sun, and she felt the first signs of heatstroke creeping in.

Claire’s voice was gentle, tinged with worry. “Go sit in the car for a bit. I’ll wait here.”

Amelia shook her head. “I’m fine.”

Just then, Gregory Hill’s assistant, Andrew Carter, stepped out. “Sorry to keep you waiting. I’m Mr. Hill’s assistant, Andrew Carter. Mr. Hill isn’t available today, so you’ll have to come back another time.”

Amelia frowned. “After waiting this long, how can you say he’s not here?”

Andrew gave a small, apologetic smile. “I really am sorry. Mr. Hill truly isn’t in today.”

Claire frowned. “Where did he go? We can meet him ourselves. It won’t take long.”

“Mr. Hill isn’t seeing anyone today,” Andrew said bluntly.

Claire’s expression darkened.

At that moment, a Maybach rolled smoothly to a stop at the entrance. Amelia narrowed her eyes. She knew that car all too well.

The door opened, and Tania and Nicole stepped out of the backseat first.

Claire’s eyes hardened the instant she saw Tania.

Tania glanced at Claire, smiled politely for a moment, then quickly looked away as if she didn’t know her.

Christopher stepped out from the passenger seat. Dressed in a sleek black outfit, simple yet elegant, he exuded an unmistakable air of authority.

Andrew’s face immediately lit up with a wide smile as he approached him. “Mr. Zephyr, welcome. Sorry for the delay.”

He gestured warmly toward Nicole and Tania. “These must be Ms. Cooper and Ms. Randall, right? Mr. Zephyr specifically mentioned you to Mr. Hill. I’ve heard that you and Mr. Zephyr are close, Ms. Randall. Seeing it firsthand today, it’s clear. Mr. Hill has been waiting for some time. Please, come inside.”

Andrew’s earlier attitude now felt like a stark contrast.

Amelia realized immediately that it wasn’t that Gregory was absent. Instead, he was hosting Christopher and Nicole, and they had been deliberately brushed off.

She took a deep breath, ignoring any concern for appearances, and stepped forward to stand directly in their way. Andrew froze, caught off guard, his brow knitting in confusion.

Christopher seemed to notice her for the first time, his gaze sweeping over her with that familiar calm detachment.

Amelia didn’t return his look. Instead, she focused on Andrew, her voice steady and polite. “Excuse me, Mr. Carter. We’ve been waiting here almost all morning. Could you do us this courtesy? Things should follow the order they arrive. We won’t take up much of Mr. Hill’s time.”

She couldn’t leave today. If she walked away, the opportunity would surely go to them. Regardless of the outcome, she had to see this through. When it came to earning money and securing investments, pride was meaningless.

At that moment, Nicole looped her arm through Christopher’s, a confident smile on her lips.

“Ms. Sinclair, so you came here to meet Mr. Hill about a deal, too?”
