Amelia looked down as she watched Nicole loop her arm through Christopher’s. The gesture screamed ownership, boldly announcing to everyone that she was the woman by Christopher’s side.

Amelia let out a cold laugh. This woman was certainly something-she called her Mia because she was supposedly her sister-in-law in private, but in front of everyone else, it was Ms. Sinclair. Well, Amelia had seen through these petty little games long ago.

Christopher’s expression remained as calm and detached as ever, yet around Nicole, he was indulgent and attentive.

Claire furrowed her brows, her eyes darkening as she watched them so openly affectionate. She knew the sting of jealousy all too well-she hadn’t expected her own daughter to experience it.

She was about to step forward when Amelia gently grabbed her arm.

“Remember why we’re here today,” Amelia whispered. “Don’t start unnecessary conflicts. Leave a good impression on the investor.”

Nicole’s tone was clearly meant to provoke, a deliberate challenge to make them look foolish.

But Amelia no longer cared. Whatever they did no longer stirred so much as a ripple in her.

Ignoring Nicole, she fixed her gaze on Andrew. “If Mr. Hill refuses to see us today, then we’ll wait here until he does.”

Despite her petite frame, Amelia’s back was straight and unwavering. If she didn’t get the meeting today, she wasn’t leaving.

Amelia treated Nicole as if she weren’t there.

Nicole pressed her lips together, smiling faintly, and looked toward Andrew. “Why did Mr. Hill schedule other people for today?”

Her implication was clear.

Of course, the assistant knew which matters carried more weight. Christopher’s position was far too important for anyone to take lightly.

The meeting was originally just about the investment project. Since Gregory was busy, Andrew had scheduled both parties to meet together.

No one had expected that Christopher would show up in person today. If he hadn’t come, a joint meeting would have been fine. But with him here, so many people going in together made it feel, in terms of Christopher’s status, like a serious lack of respect.

Andrew glanced at Amelia and the others calmly. “As you can see, if you insist on seeing Mr. Hill, it still depends on whether Mr. Zephyr and his girlfriend are okay with it.”

Andrew had long proven himself sharp and tactful.

Amelia clearly wasn’t going to let this chance slip away. They needed this investment, and they couldn’t afford to lose it.

Claire frowned slightly. This was clearly an obstacle.

Amelia remained silent for a moment.

“Chris,” Nicole said, smiling sweetly as if offering a kind suggestion, “look at Ms. Sinclair and the others. They’re clearly exhausted and sunburned. Let’s just go in together. A good project doesn’t fear fair competition.”

Because of Nicole’s pleading, Christopher finally spoke calmly. “Let’s go in together.”

“Ms. Sinclair, shall we?” Nicole said, smiling brightly.

Andrew couldn’t help but admire her. No wonder she was Christopher’s girlfriend-she had real presence.

With just a single sentence, Nicole had them cleared to enter, while they themselves had been waiting all morning. The contrast was stark-like a magnanimous gesture from someone in power, looking down on the rest.

It was obvious that Nicole was flaunting Amelia’s lack of influence, showing that one word from her carried more weight than all of Amelia’s effort.

Christopher was unusually generous today. Whatever his intentions, Amelia didn’t care. She was determined to seize the opportunity and go in.

When they entered the tea room, they were welcomed with the soothing scent of freshly brewed leaves.

Gregory stepped forward to greet Christopher.

“If I had known you’d come today, I would have chosen a nicer location, Mr. Zephyr.”

Christopher smiled faintly and shook his hand. “Business as usual. I’m here with a family friend, so no need to make a fuss over me.”

He said it lightly, but his presence spoke volumes. Who would dare dismiss him?

Gregory smiled warmly. “I actually saw you last Friday at the Nimbus City resort, but I didn’t approach to say hello. That resort is actually mine. Next time you go, it’s on the house. Let me know if there’s anything amiss with the hospitality, and I’ll take care of it.”

Amelia froze for a moment.

Last Friday? That was the night Nathan had a fever, and Christopher had claimed he was on a business trip.

Amelia let out a quiet, bitter laugh.

So much for a business trip-it turned out to be a date!
