Chapter 97
Stepping out of the tea room, Claire’s chest felt tight with anger, a storm of frustration she couldn’t voice. Today had been humiliating, and she had been powerless to stop it.
“I never imagined Christopher would treat you like that. If I’d known, I would’ve never let you go through those miserable days!”
Amelia’s face had gone even paler, a thin sheen of sweat forming on her forehead. She shook her head weakly, her voice quieter than usual. “It’s fine. It’s all in the past.”
People had to look forward, not back.
The afternoon sun beat down harshly. Claire noticed Amelia’s condition and was worried. “Are you feeling faint? Maybe heatstroke?”
She frowned slightly. “Wait here a moment. I’ll go get the car and drive you to the hospital.”
The parking lot wasn’t far, but the walk would be under the scorching sun. Amelia felt dizzy, and her vision was swimming. She leaned against the doorframe and nodded faintly.
Claire left to get the car.
Amelia’s wrist throbbed sharply. She had spent so much time last night preparing the 3D model presentation that the strain was showing. She glanced at the bandage, noticing faint streaks of blood seeping through.
She frowned, deciding she’d go back to the hospital soon. Last night had forced her body past its limits.
Today’s investment meeting hadn’t secured funding, but it hadn’t been wasted either. She could take the same proposal to other investors.
“Still not healed?”
Amelia glanced sideways to find Christopher’s eyes fixed on her wrist, his gaze sharp but unreadable.
Christopher had emerged alone.
Nicole and Tania were probably still inside, hashing out the details of the deal with Gregory.
His question was casual, almost offhand, and Amelia had long since grown used to it. She didn’t respond, too drained to speak. For a while, the two of them remained in silence.
At that moment, Nigel drove the car up to the entrance.
Christopher said, “There happens to be some imported ointment for scars and wounds in the car. Take it with you.
་་
Nigel glanced at Amelia’s hand and immediately understood. He quickly retrieved the ointment from the car. ” Here, Mrs. Zephyr. Take it.”
Amelia had no intention of taking it at first, but her eyes caught the name on the package. The doctor last night had said that, if possible, she should use this imported ointment. It was rare, expensive, and hard to get.
She couldn’t risk further damage to her wrist. Besides, there was no reason to take advantage of Christopher’s generosity. So, she took it without hesitation.
Just then, Claire approached with a frown on her face.

“Mom?” Amelia stepped forward. “Where’s the car?”
“It broke down,” Claire said. “I’ve called for repairs. They should be here shortly.”
Amelia took a deep breath, her vision blurring slightly. She realized she was a little overheated and running low on blood sugar.
She bit her lip and gave a faint nod, silently hoping she could hold on a little longer.
“Your car broke down?”
Behind her, Nicole and Tania stepped out, holding the signed contracts.
Nicole’s brow furrowed with concern. “Does that mean you can’t go back down the mountain today?
“Too bad our car can’t fit everyone at once,” Nicole added, glancing at Christopher. “Chris, why don’t we have Nigel take Ms. Sinclair and her mother down first? We can go enjoy the scenery nearby.”
Amelia pursed her lips. “Then I’ll gratefully accept.”
Without another word, she helped her mother into the car.
Nicole froze.
Tania blinked, confused.
Nicole hadn’t expected Amelia to be so shameless, just taking her mother and getting in the car, leaving the rest of them waiting there.
Nigel paused for a moment, glancing at Christopher for instructions.
