Chapter 98

“Take them down the mountain first,” Christopher said calmly.

Amelia knew perfectly well that he wouldn’t risk offending Nicole. She had spoken, and he would most likely just nod in agreement.

Nigel nodded and got into the driver’s seat.

“Where to, ma’am?” he asked.

Amelia leaned back against the seat. “The nearest hospital.”

Nigel hesitated for a moment, but it wasn’t his place to pry, so he drove off.

The broken-down car could be towed later by the repair service. Amelia never made things harder for herself than they had to be. If there was a car available, it was only natural she would take it.

Claire hadn’t expected Amelia to be so decisive and briskly take the initiative to get in..

At the hospital, Nigel naturally called Christopher to report that they had arrived safely.

The man’s response was calm, almost indifferent. “Noted.”

The doctor prescribed some medication for Amelia’s overheating and told her to rest.

Claire looked her over with concern. “You’ve been getting thinner and weaker lately. You need to take care of yourself. Is it because of Christopher?”

“It’s not,” Amelia said. “I’ve just been too busy lately to think about my health.”

And she really had been busy-busy earning money and reclaiming everything that was rightfully hers.

“You go home and rest. I’ll pick up Evie tonight.”

Amelia nodded. She wasn’t feeling well and didn’t want to push herself. “Don’t worry about the company investment. I’ll figure something out.”

Once she got home, Amelia took a quick shower and applied the imported ointment Christopher had given her to her wound. Then, she collapsed into bed and slept straight through until after eight in the evening.

A call from Dorothy woke her.

“Mia, I asked Chris to take you to the resort in Nimbus City. Did you have fun?”

Amelia froze for a moment, then let out a short, bitter laugh. So this was Dorothy’s little mission. And of course, he had gone and taken Nicole instead.

He hadn’t even bothered to tell her-not that she would have gone if he had.

She didn’t want to make excuses for Christopher, but it would have been a hassle if she got questioned later. She kept her reply short and neutral. “It was fun.”

Dorothy then asked her to come back to Whitmore Manor for dinner, but Amelia declined, citing being too busy with work.

The next day during lunch, Amelia scrolled through a series of documents related to her mother’s company. Claire’s company handled medical equipment parts. They were responsible for both production and design. With

all the big companies competing fiercely, the firm wasn’t the only one with expertise in its field. There were plenty of options, yet every attempt to branch out and produce new designs ran into roadblocks.

This time, her mother had developed AI robots to support medical advancements. However, they still needed investment to fund production and attract future clients.

Last night, she had been scrolling through messages in the network, trying to reach out to several investors. Every message vanished into silence, with no replies even now.

The investment issue had to be solved, or the company’s cash flow would come to a grinding halt.

She clicked into a discussion thread about a legendary figure in the venture world, then froze when she saw Christopher’s name.

He was everywhere.

Amelia quickly exited the thread.

Just then, Jasper carried a tray of food over and noticed the worried expression on her face. “What’s got you so stressed? You look like you’ve got the weight of the world on your shoulders.”

He sat down across from her.

Amelia pressed her lips together and rubbed her temples, letting out a small groan.

“Went to meet an investor with my mom yesterday, but someone cut in through the back door and swooped in before we could close anything.”

Jasper raised an eyebrow. “So you’re worried about that? What kind of project is it?”
