Chapter 111

John was going to leave, making it clear he had no intention of staying.

Eagon watched him leave, a whirlwind of thoughts in his mind. When John reached the doorway, Eagon called out, “Wait.”

John paused. He turned around, waiting for what Eagon wanted to say.

“About Gabrielle,” Eagon asked. “Do you just have a lead? Or do you have concrete information?”

The careless, lazy look was gone from his eyes. All that remained was weight and seriousness.

“Concrete information,” John replied slowly and surely. “Including, but not limited to, her current job, address, and identity.”

Eagon’s fists, hanging at his sides, tightened slightly.

Seeing the struggle and hesitation, John went on, “To show my sincerity, I can give you one piece of information.”

Emotion flickered in Eagon’s gaze. “What’s that?”

“She’s about to get engaged.” He watched every reaction on Eagon’s face when he said that.

Eagon’s heart skipped a beat. The words were out of his mouth before he could even think. “That’s impossible!”

“Decide for yourself whether it is possible,” John said as he looked at Eagon’s clenched fists, his voice still casual. “The information is only good for one week. After that, I’ll destroy it.”

Eagon pressed his lips, his mind flooded with memories of the past.

He couldn’t make himself believe it.

But…

Knowing Gabrielle’s personality, it was something she would do, especially after what he had done to her.

Eagon stood in the doorway for a long time. Only when the phone in his pocket buzzed did he slowly come back to himself.

When he saw the name on the screen, his fingers tightened slightly around the phone.

It was Solomon.

After thinking it over, Eagon answered. “Solomon.”

His voice was low and hoarse. Everyone could hear something was wrong, let alone Solomon.

“What is it?” Solomon’s tone was warm.

Eagon gripped the phone a little harder, not knowing where to start.

Sharp as ever, Solomon waited a short while. But after hearing nothing, he made his own guesses. “What did John say to you?”

Eagon froze. “How did you know?”

“No one but him can shake you like this,” Solomon sald, unhurried as always.

That warm and gentle voice had the power to calm one’s heart, as well as the mix of conflict and anxiety in Bagon’s heart.

“He wants me to fire Sierra in exchange for news about Gabby,” Eagon said honestly. Solomon was, after all, his real brother in

arms.

Solomon’s dark eyes behind his silver–rimmed glasses raised slightly, a trace of emotion flashing through them.

Leaning his back against the doorframe, Eagon went on, “He said no one else could find her. Not even you.”
