Regrets Come Too Late (Sierra and Johnny) novel Chapter 112

Chapter 112

It’s fine, I have things to handle at home.Sierra gave a casual excuse.

After that, she pressed her lips together and took a moment to steady herself before speaking again.

Can I ask you something?

Eagon stood there with one hand in his pocket. Go ahead.

She shifted the bag in her hand. Did John come to see you to make you fire me?

The reason she had dared to stay on here, aside from the high pay, was that even if she couldn’t find another job, she had never worried about being fired. Everyone knew John and Eagon did not get along.

However, what she had just seen in the living room left her with a bad feeling.

Eagon looked into her clear eyes for a moment, then answered honestly. Yes, but I haven’t given him an answer yet.

Sierra’s heart sank.

She thanked him, then turned to leave.

Ms. Bell,Eagon called after her.

Sierra stopped walking.

In all the years you were married to John, have you ever met a woman with the last name Quinn?he asked directly.

Sierra shook her head. No.

Whatever hope Eagon had been holding onto disappeared after that.

Sierra didn’t think much of it. After answering, she left.

Walking down the path out of the Lane estate, one thought kept circling in her mind. If this job also ended up ruined thanks to John, then her position at Origin Games probably wouldn’t be safe either.

When that happened, what was she supposed to do?

With that thought in her mind, she pulled out her phone and called John.

With each ring, the anger in her chest stewed.

John had just arrived at Lakeside Villa from the hospital. When he saw her name on the screen, he slid his finger across to answer the call, his eyes still on the computer screen. What is it?

Why did you tell Eagon to fire me?Sierra immediately asked a sharp question, her auger plain in every word. You clearly said you won’t make things hard for me. Did you forget what you said at Lakeside Villa?

John’s low voice came calmly through the line. I said I won’t deliberately make things difficult for you. That means treating you like a stranger.

If I’m just a stranger, then why interfere at all?Sierra shot back.

I wouldn’t bother with a random stranger,John responded without emotion. But if you can affect me, that is different.

How am I affecting you?Sierra was certain he was doing it on purpose. Am I in your way? Are you tired of seeing me? Or did I somehow upset you again?

John’s response went straight to Sierra’s heart. Do I need to explain myself to a stranger?

It was a simple answer.

And it felt like a knife driven into Sierra’s chest, shredding what was left of her composure. Her fingers tightened around her phone until her knuckles went white. Every accusation and retort she had prepared simply wouldn’t come out.

From his point of view, he really didn’t owe a stranger any explanation.

She pondered for a long time and still couldn’t find a way to argue with him. In the end, she simply hung up.

There was nothing she could do about it except take it all in. If Eagon decided to listen to him and fire her, she would have to figure out some other way to make money quickly. She couldn’t take on John by herself.

John stared at the ended call, his fingers sliding lightly over her number on the screen.

Pamela walked in and saw him sitting there looking at his phone instead of working. She hesitated, then stepped forward.John, are you busy?
