John didn’t answer, but his face expressed everything.
Kenneth wanted to talk John out of it. This plan was far too extreme and far from normal.
Yet when he thought about everything John had gone through since he was a boy, he realized that John probably wouldn’t listen no matter what he said.
John hoped Sierra would hit a wall, though he probably would be the one to suffer the consequences instead.
After thinking about it, Kenneth decided not to keep persuading him. John needed to be wrong once. Only after he made a real mistake would he have any chance of becoming a little more normal.
Kenneth suppressed the rest of his thoughts and apologized to Sierra in his heart. “What do you need me to do?”
“Invite a few people who wouldn’t target Sierra before because I was there,” John said in a flat voice, emotionless. “If they refuse, tell them the invitation comes from me.”
Normally, a company party only included people from the company. Bringing in a few people from the board of management was also perfectly normal, though.
Kenneth stood by his side uncompromisingly. “Alright.”
“Thanks.” John knew Kenneth didn’t agree with what he was doing. The only reason Kenneth was willing to help was that he treated John as a friend.
“We’re best friends,” Kenneth said as he slipped back into his usual easy calm. “But I’m not going to that banquet. You handle the line yourself. Don’t go too far.” 12
John gave him a hum of agreement.
Once they finished talking business, the two chatted about other things.
They didn’t head home until late at night. John explained the plan to Robin, highlighted some important details, and didn’t add anything else.
Robin’s efficiency was impressive. Before long, the news had been passed through the entire company.
Thursday morning.
Not long after Sierra and the others arrived at the office, a message appeared in the main company group chat.
Basically, next Wednesday would be a full day off from regular work so everyone could attend the company’s tenth anniversary celebration. Every department needed to put together one performance.
As soon as the message dropped, the whole department started a discussion.
“Having Wednesday off sounds great, but if it’s anything like the past anual parties, we won’t be able to leave until at least ten at night.”
“Will Mr. Henderson go? He counts as one of us now.”
“Probably not. He’s from Henderson Group. Showing up at Origin Games‘ celebration would be a little strange.”
“Shouldn’t we be worrying about the fact that every department has to prepare some kind of performance? We can’t sing, we’re super awkward, and we have no skills worthy of a performance. What are we supposed to do with that?”
“Ask Sierra,” someone suggested. “She should be up to it.”

Everyone but Sierra moved to this new project after the last one, so they already knew each other inside and out. They were already familiar with each other.
Sierra was still searching on her phone to see if next Wednesday really was Origin Games‘ tenth anniversary. The timing was too coincidental. It was hard for her not to suspect it had something to do with John.
“Sierra,” someone called her name.
She lifted her gaze from the screen and looked over. “What is it?”
“Do you have any special skills?” they asked very directly. “Stand–up comedy, singing, dancing, playing an instrument, doing a skit, anything like that… The rest of us don’t know the first thing about any of it.”
Singing at karaoke was one thing. It didn’t matter if you were good or bad.
However, this was an anniversary celebration. If they messed it up, they would embarrass themselves in front of more than a thousand people.
Sierra was just about to say she wasn’t really good at anything and that as a newcomer, it wasn’t very suitable for her to take the
