Chapter 182
Zane was still holding a grudge over something that had happened so long ago.
“Which Ms. Bell are you actually referring to?” Randy thought for a moment. “Is it the heiress of the bankrupt Bell Group?”
“Of course.” Zane didn’t hesitate to sell Sierra out.
Sierra’s heart tightened without her even realizing it.
These people didn’t know she had once been with John, but their wedding had been grand. Everyone in their circle with even a bit of status and a decent relationship with them had been invited.
If these people started asking questions up the hierarchy, they could very easily find out. When that happened, coming to work would no longer be just coming to work.
“Well… Not exactly,” Zane added calmly.
Randy blinked.
The people around them were confused.
So… Was she or was she not the same person?
Zane started talking nonsense. “The Bell Group heiress was much more compliant than her. She’s educated and well–mannered, gentle and kind. This woman can’t measure up to her at all.”
Sierra understood his intentions even less now, but she knew for certain that he meant no good.
“Go mind your own business now. I want to have a chat with Ms. Bell,” Zane said to the others, though his eyes stayed on Sierra with amusement.
“Alright. Call us if you need anything,” Randy said. He was sharp enough to know not to interrupt what he wanted. He even gave Sierra a heads–up. “Take good care of Mr. Hawthorne. Don’t neglect his needs.”
Jenny took the situation and was about to say something, but Sierra gave her a look that meant she could handle it. Jenny then followed the crowd out.
In no time, only the two of them were left.
Zane leaned against a nearby column. “Are you really that afraid they’ll find out that the once rich little heiress who went bankrupt ended up working as a wage slave?”
“Why are you here?” Sierra answered with a question of her own.
“To attend Origin Games‘ tenth anniversary celebration, of course.” Zane sounded completely natural. “And to take a look at the once high and mighty Ms. Bell.”
Sierra couldn’t be bothered to respond and started to walk away.
Zane followed her at an easy pace.
Seeing that she didn’t slow down, he reminded Sierra in a friendly tone, “Your bosses just told you not to neglect me. If I tell them you disrespected me, what do you think will happen?”
“Do as you please,” Sierra said, not buying into his threats at all.

Zane stopped, staring at her from behind. “Then what if I tell them about you and John?”
Sierra froze completely.
Zane sat down on a leather couch nearby. “I’m guessing they still don’t know about that, too.”
“It was just a small argument. Are you really going to stay angry over it for this long?” Sierra had never seen anyone so petty.
“A small argument?” Zane’s temper flared up the moment Sierra brought it up. “You and Holly stole my woman right in front of my buddies, then beat me up and humiliated me! That was a total disgrace!”
Sierra didn’t even feel like talking to him.
It had been the summer right after high school graduation. She and Holly had gone to a bar with a few friends and saw Zane harassing a girl, forcing her to drink and putting his hands on her.
Neither she nor Holly was the type to stomach that kind of thing, so of course they stepped in.
Back then, the Bell family was doing better than the Hawthorne family. All Zane could do was curse at them a little. He didn’t dare do anything more, especially after Holly gave him a beating.
“Apologize to me and let me hit you once,” Zane demanded.
It was clear he had been holding onto it for ages.
“Otherwise, I’ll tell everyone at Origin Games who you really are and what went on between you and John.”
Sierra met his eyes, her gaze calm.
“Hurry up! Stop wasting time,” Zane urged her.
