“Are you sure you want to call me Uncle John?” John asked Tommy. There was not a trace of anger in his voice as his eyes were

as calm as ever.

“Absolutely sure,” Tommy answered.

John flicked him lightly on the forehead. “Alright.”

Since Tommy had already downgraded him to Uncle John, it was only natural for him to use it later. He was “no longer” Tommy’s “father”, after all.

Tommy blinked.

John didn’t act like a father at all.

“Make sure your mom keeps her wound dry,” John said as he left. He glanced at Sierra’s bandaged ankle again and reminded Tommy, “If it gets wet, it really might get serious.”

Tommy didn’t answer.

He watched John walk out of their apartment, then pulled Sierra toward the door, speaking in a voice just loud enough for John to hear. “Mom, let’s change the password.”

“Alright,” Sierra replied.

John stood by the elevator and watched the two of them being busy at the door. He didn’t say a word as he stepped inside the elevator. A passcode lock was easier for him to crack than a regular lock. All he needed was a few lines of code.

Sierra had no idea about that.

Meanwhile, she was having a hard time coming up with a password that was easy to remember but hard for anyone else to guess.

“Mommy.” After they finished and closed the door, Tommy called to her in a guilty tone.

“Yes?” Sierra answered.

“I’m sorry.” Tommy felt really guilty. “I knew you didn’t want to see Dad, but I still gave him the password and let him in. You had to be alone with him for so long, and you didn’t like it.”

Sierra patted his head and said in a gentle voice, “You did it because you were worried about me. I’m very touched, so you don’t need to apologize.”

“Mommy, you’re the best!” Tommy hugged her tight.

Warmth spread inside Sierra’s heart.

She asked Tommy how things had been over there these past few days. His answer was the same as before. Everything was fine, and he just missed her a lot.

Sierra knew John loved Tommy. As long as John’s parents stayed away, Tommy wouldn’t suffer in that house.

But she didn’t dare leave Tommy with him. She had decided she would never date anyone again, so she could pour all her love into Tommy.

Alas, John couldn’t do that.

He had promised to take care of Pamela for the rest of his life. The idea of Pamela becoming Tommy’s stepmother was something Sierra didn’t even dare to imagine.

They talked a little longer, then Sierra sent Tommy off to bed.

“Sierra, did you have breakfast already?”

They fired questions at her one after another until Sierra felt stunned. She set down her purse and sat, looking at them with puzzled eyes, silently asking what they were talking about.

“The last person to go on stage last night was Mr. John, right?” Cindy asked. “I saw him holding your hand.”

“Yeah! I saw it too!”

“What’s going on between you two?”
