Chapter 217
Sierra’s gaze fell on Solomon as he lay in his hospital bed, trying to tell if he was telling the truth.
He had said the same thing three times already. This time, he had even risked his life to save her, just so she would talk to John.
Was Solomon really this sort of person?
She did not know him well and had never been close to him, but judging from John’s past warnings….
He was not.
“I understand your worries, and I know you’re worried I’m using you,” Solomon said, seeing right through her. His tone was sincere as he continued, “But there’s nothing I can use you for in this. If there is anything at all, it’s that I hope he’ll put his whole heart into being my rival.”
“I’m sorry,” Sierra finally said, turning his request down. “You saved me, yes, but I still can’t agree to this.”
Feelings weren’t something one could trade for favors or conditions. The only thing that could sway her was her own heart.
“You don’t need to apologize. Saving you wasn’t just about getting one chance,” Solomon said slowly, his voice calm. “More importantly, it’s because I know how important you are to John. If something happened to you, I can’t imagine how frantic he would be.”
Sierra stayed silent. His words sounded so genuine that she couldn’t find a single flaw.
“It’s getting late. You should head back to work,” Solomon said after checking his watch. “We can talk again another time after
this.”
“I want to ask you one last thing,” Sierra said, wanting to test him a little more.
“Go ahead,” Solomon replied politely.
“What kind of person is John in your eyes?”
This time, she was more serious. She needed his response to weigh how much of what he said was true and how much was not.
Solomon let out a small laugh.
Sierra frowned slightly.
“I’ll be honest. I don’t actually know him that well,” Solomon admitted openly. “The only thing I’m sure of is that he cares about you a lot.”
Sierra fell silent.
Now, she suddenly understood why John kept warning her that Solomon hid his thoughts deep inside of him. The natural way he spoke and the calm, open look on his face could make someone drop their guard without even noticing and start to believe his sincerity.
“You should go back to work,” Solomon urged her.
Sierra answered that she would and asked a few more questions about his condition before leaving.
On the subway back, she sat there a little perplexed.
She went back over everything that had happened, but still couldn’t figure out what Solomon was after. According to John, the falling chandelier was something Solomon had arranged in advance.
Was he really that confident that nothing would go wrong and that he wouldn’t accidentally kill himself?
Sierra returned to the company with those doubts in her head. She had barely sat down when Jenny came over with the five

thousand–dollar prize and a voucher for a dishwasher.
“This is the bonus and prize for last night’s performance,” Jenny told her.
Sierra’s eyes lit up.
She glanced at the neat stack of hundred–dollar bills.
