Chapter 227
Kenneth listened to the silence on the other end for a long time before finally speaking
“That’s the whole conversation?”
Lucy tapped a few keys on the keyboard and pulled up another application. When she saw the small blue dot moving across the screen, she answered without hesitation.
“Yeah. Sierra’s leaving the hospital.”
Kenneth glanced at the man beside him on instinct.
The pressure in the atmosphere was gone, and the chill had eased. Even John looked a little warmer than before.
“I really don’t get it,” Lucy said as she closed the laptop, nosy as ever. “You still want a divorce when your wife is someone as nice as Sierra. Do you secretly like men or something?”
John raised his eyes and said, “Who said I wanted a divorce?”
Kenneth froze.
Lucy blinked.
“She’s the one who brought it up.” John kept his voice calm, but his heart had warmed after hearing what Sierra had to say. “I’m just letting her vent.”
“Sierra isn’t venting,” Kenneth reminded him. “Today is the eighth. The cooling–off period ends on the twelfth. That means on the thirteenth, you two are getting the official divorce certificate.”
John paused. He didn’t realize that time had slipped by that fast.
“You know her better than anyone,” Kenneth said, forcing himself to keep going on with every bit of courage he had. “If you change your mind and back out on that day, she might do something drastic to make it happen.”
John stood up from the crouch. His expression became more serious than before.
True, there were some things he needed to settle.
“Where are you going?” Kenneth asked as John walked off without another word.
“I got her back here as you asked,” John’s tone stayed steady as he walked away. “In the next few days, find out everything I want. I want results by next Wednesday.”
Lucy’s curiosity sparked. “What’s this about?”
“It’s Sierra’s mom,” Kenneth said.
Lucy frowned. What was there to dig into?
“You came back at the perfect time.” Kenneth shoved the laptop toward her. “Help me with this. I’ve been digging for almost a month, and I still haven’t found a single lead. It’s like someone wiped everything clean, and they knew exactly what they were doing.”
“That neatly?” Lucy sounded surprised.
From what she remembered, Sierra’s mother was just an ordinary woman; beautiful, gentle, and organized.
“If you don’t believe me, look for yourself,” Kenneth said.
“I want to sleep first,” Lucy said flatly.

Kenneth grabbed her and wouldn’t let her go. “One search won’t take more than a few minutes.”
“No,” Lucy rejected him.
“Please,” Kenneth begged.
He was already very worn down during this time. He had never had something this hard to investigate. He needed to know whether someone had buried Anna’s records or if he was simply not skilled enough.
Lucy stared at him in silence, filled with open disdain, then finally gave in and asked, “What do you want to know?”
“Where Sierra’s mom lived before she came to Jade City,” Kenneth said. “Her parents‘ names, and whether she has any relatives besides Sierra and Lucas.”
Lucy’s fingers moved across the keyboard, lazy and halfhearted.
The result came back.
Nothing.
